Boundary training a puppy

Can anyone give me some advice on keeping my puppy in her yard and not all over god's creation? She has started to get adventourous and is now wandering outside of her yard.

keep her on a leash or fence in your yard. If you are going to be out with her then after you teach a good recall you can let her off leash (assuming there are not many cars) and just call her when she starts getting too far away from you. But there is no way to safely keep her on your property when she is by herself without some sort of leash or fence. Dogs don't care who's yard it is they just like to be on the move. I myself don't know any dog who will stay in their yard 100% while she's by herself.

I agree. I don't know how old your puppy is, but most young puppies (less than about 12-16 weeks) like to stay close to their owners once they bond with them. But as they get older, they start to branch out and try to explore the world on their own. THis is one reason why I'd have a hard time trying to convince people with 8-12 week old puppies that they need training class, because they're so cute and cuddly and like to stick by you all the time. But they get older....

Thanks for the replies. She is 14 weeks and is starting to venture on her own. Nothing too bad yet, but she get a little further each time. I'm just afraid that she will catch a rabbit scent and take off after it. I will have to get out the long leash and put her on it from now on, until she learns to come.

Smkie has some really good advice on this...she border trained her rescue Pointer and that's almost impossible to do with the amount of squirrels we have around here!
