I've gotta say, as someone who shows their dogs, yet still maintains that my animals have functional brains, I LOVE hearing this kind of a story. (Not in the sense that I'm glad someone broke into your house...I'm certainly not!)
Kudos to your wonderful breed representatives- and kudos to the breeder(s) as well! Functional and beautiful...it can be done.

Spirit - that's the thing... my dogs are friendly too! They both get wiggly butts when they see people they know, they prance around like "lovesick pups" when people approach them at Petsmart, Theisen's, etc. They're nice, sweet, friendly dogs... that also happen to turn into demons if I'm threatened.
Sadly, outdoor dogs often lose this urge to protect their family, simply because they aren't inside with their pack. The fastest way to make your dog not protect you is to make them outside dogs. And I know Hershey is outside NOT by your choice. Kudos to working with him (and your mom) to make him less of an outside dog!
