Another thought: is your family checking shelters in PERSON? If not, please see if they can vs relying on the shelter to let them know if a matching dog comes in.

Boo is still missing. I have called the Prince William County Animal Shelter and the Fairfax County Animal Shelter and have been checking petharbor regularly. My brother is going to go to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter after he gets off of work this evening even though they told me an hour ago that they have no dogs matching her description. I want to know for sure. Prince William is a ways from the house, but my mom is going to go there in person tomorrow if Boo is not back.

Dogs Finding Dogs won't help us search because of our location (although they were kind and offered to give strategy advice if needed), but my mom is going to speak with my dad tonight about possibly using the other tracker. We need to call them and ask if it's still worth it to try to track even after several days and a bout of snow and rain.

Is there a Lost Dogs of... for your state? Like Lost Dogs of Wisconsin? Even if there's not, you could check out their website- they have lots of really helpful tips.

Still sending vibes she comes home!!! Hang posters at her favorite spots to hang out with you. Like if there's a place you go hiking with her often, put posters up there for sure as well.

I live in prince William county and I've been keeping an eye out. I'm so sorry she hasn't been found yet.

Just posted her info on all three sites listed above.

I have new info from my parents about when/how they think she got out.

Apparently, she was last seen lying in the yard shortly before 7:30 PM on the north side of my house. My dad and brother had been doing yard work with the dog out back and were finishing up because it was getting dark. Boo didn't want to come in with my dad (I asked him if she looked like she was just basking in the sun or injured/ill in some way... he said he didn't notice anything awry). This is not terribly typical, but not unheard of either... she's not the world's most obedient dog and has been known to want to stay out occasionally. Anyway, fast forward and the neighbor to the southeast of us started setting off fireworks. My dad went outside to check on Boo. She wasn't there. He assumed my mom had already brought her in. And that is how she disappeared. So, provided that the fireworks did scare her, I suspect that she bolted in the Northwest, away from the noise.

I will upload a map later, but this would put her headed away from Davis Drive (in Lorton) towards furnace and Lorton roads (and eventually in the direction of I-95).

How far does a scared dog typically bolt? Keep in mind that the fireworks continued to go off even after she started running.

I am absolutely terrified that she made it to 95 without turning somewhere.

When Rose bolted due to a thunderstorm, we searched in probably a square 3 mile or so radius from our house, all back country roads. We even went across the highway and down some other back roads, as well as went up and down the highway on both sides praying to God we DIDN'T see her there. Couldn't find her anywhere. She eventually turned up the next morning after having holed up in the woods somewhere (she was covered in burrs) like nothing was wrong, so I don't think she went TOO far. (And the storm didn't stop just all at once - she holed up somewhere and didn't continue bolting.) She came back from the direction she normally "bolts" in (when she would get scared, she'd head off down our lane towards the woods directly to our south).

Had someone picked her up, however, who knows where she would have ended up. She was a senior, ill dog with a raggedy collar and no ID who looked like death. I think had someone picked her up it would have taken MUCH longer to find her, because they probably would have thought she was a stray that had been dumped. She wouldn't have been able to come home on her own.
