For the past two days my dogs stool has been black liquidy style. His diet did change a bit, he has been eating a lot more raw muscle meat then usual. When he was a puppy when i used to feed him muscle meat (example raw steak) his stool used to resemble this but since i started feeding him more bone with meat his stool has gotten normal. Last time his stool was like this was over a year ago.

my question is, does all black stool mean something bad or could it just because cuz of his diet. I googled it and all the posts i found regarding this involved some kind of sickness or virus or something and now i am worried. i was hoping to wait this off and see if it gets better but now i am thinking of taking my dog to the vet (which is like an hour drive away).

here is a picture of how it looked like this morning. he must have done it during the night while i was asleep.

Good god.. it looks like oil... I have no clue, but that doesn't look good at ALL.

What, exactly, are you feeding? If you are feeding raw I'm pretty sure THIS is rec'd..

5 - 10% organs (with half that amount being liver)

10 – 15% edible bone

80 – 85% meat, fat, skin, connective tissue etc.

I said the samething in your other thread :D But I would get him on a bland diet of boiled hamburg and white rice for two days and let his belly rest. Some dogs just don't take well to raw meats as others do.

Ok, my dog just pood a while ago and his stool is back to normal. I guess it was because of the type of meat.

I think it must be my feeding method. I think I am supposed to feed a mixture of meat with bone and regular meat at the same time. Currently I feed like regular meat one day, boney meat next day, organs the third day etc..

You would think that after a year and a half of feeding my dog that I would know how to do is right by now!

Yeah, Usurp.. I think Red is right, fasting him for a day (no treats, too!) and then getting onto some boiled hamburger and rice would be very good for him. Cottage cheese is also very bland, and has helped us a lot. Then he can rest his tummy and you can do some serious studying on raw diets.. you could possibly be harming him by only feeding him the muscle meat. :(

As I said in my quote, though, just as a basis to go by...

5 - 10% organs (with half that amount being liver)

10 – 15% edible bone

80 – 85% meat, fat, skin, connective tissue etc.

If you are feeding organs on their own day, how much are you giving, and are you giving anything else along with the organs? You don't need much organ meat. Certainly not enough to warrant it's own feeding day. Your dog shouldn't need more than an ounce or so of something like liver or kidney a few times a week.

I can see doing muscle meat one day and bony stuff another, I do that with our pug quite a bit, but they get their organs with the muscle meat.
