I am on a repro list with one of the very few breeders stateside. She seems to care a lot about her breed and her little dogs are very cute. The puppies are just sweet as can be in pics I've seen.

The biewer yorkie was originally a piebald genetic recessive gene from 2 yorkies.

If that's the case, then why continue to breed something that is considered a fault?

I guess to me, it's like the "Flowered Shar Pei" or basically the piebald Pei. Once breeders culled them and wanted to desperately pretend they didn't exist in their litter. Now people are breeding specifically for them.

probably because someone liked the look. Some colors can have health issues attached...or temperament issues even. In the absence of that, and since this breed was not bred for any other purpose than companionship and good looks...it's not horrifying me...esp if it is a natural occurence in the breed requiring no outside breeds added.

The Akita was similar in that ONCE parti colored/pintos were highly prized. Then one day the Japanese decided that they were ugly...and showed a Western influence and did not fit the aesthetic of Japanese art which highly values simplicity of form and color. So they reintroduced Spitz types and bred away from the white markings in excess. Others did not find the markings to be any huge deal and they continued to allow it. The breed was eventually split most places outside the USA.

But the original reason for not allowing a flashy pattern...was hardly a health, temperament, or purpose based one. It always pays to know WHY something was not favored. You may find it was nothing noble...more a tantrum or lost chess game...LOL. In which case...why is their reason for not liking it...more important than someone else's for liking it?

I agree if there are no health problems or issues on the breeds "job" it shouldn't be a problem.

I like the look of the dog, too.

Similarly to what Gina said, Papillons used to be wolid colored dogs. Since they're companions and color really doesn't affect that front very much, they've changed into more flashy particolor look and now solid dogs are a DQ.

I have always liked the look of the Biewers. If they're bred responsibly then I see no problems.

There are a number of them on my yorkie board.

until I joined I had never seen one before.... they really are cute dogs and I would love to have one but it is hard to find responsible breeders and I dont think I would go looking too far for one.

Yeah there's lots of great breeds that are ukc, ect. Papers are pfft when it comes to a well-bred dog.

Kinda to the last part. If it's well bred, I want to see that it has appropriate papers.. Doesn't have to be AKC papers, but none is a problem. Biewers should come with papers from the IBC or BBCI.

True. Just because a dog isn't akc, doesn't mean anything. The AKC doesn't recognize EVERY breed out there.
