Wow it may have taken me a long time trying to get an answer but that Staffies breed is exactly what I was looking for and idc about tough training what I went through with the rottweiler/ridge back and the german shepard should make traing that dog easier.
Also the spaniels u sent me all though not my favorite breeds I think is what my moms looking for Ill do some reasherch on both of them and see what would work thanks so much I cant stress how much of a help it is giving up that dog that was biting even though it had to be done was not ez and is something I dont wanna do again.

My Collie is excellent with my four cats and she's great with kids , although I have seen her small herd groups of kids, and only try that routine with my cats once, lol. She's a real sweetie, very loving and very kind dog. But then again, she has also been basic obedience trained and her training is continuing. I think regardless of breed, training a dog goes a long way toward adjustment within a family. Collies like to be with their families, they do not enjoy hanging out alone in yards and will let you and your neighbors know it with a bark like none other. They also need grooming and exercise. If you are willing to put the time into a dog, a Collie would give you years of love and joy. Keyword: Time.

I did notice you were looking for a breed that isn't expensive. I never had a pet that was not expensive. There are vet bills, premium foods, training classes, toys, grooming expenses that follow every responsible pet owner, regardless of breed.

Yeah I wouldve always wanted a collie but there hard to come by around here for some weird reason as for bills I know you have to pay but I dont want the most disease prone dog or the dog that needs extensive amounts of grooming and I can train the dog my self. I know what expenses come with the dog I dont give them cheap food Im just talking less medical expenses mainly cuz my golden kept getting skin diseases that cost alot to treat.

I know all dogs can bite but I think a ridge back and rottweiler are more likely then a golden that kinda thing
not really, its all about the breeding. do you have any evidence?

We had the pup for 4 months we had my dads friend behaviorlist said it wasnt gonna fit in at our house so he told us about a really good shelter that takes alotta time to give them to the right people and posts the dog online and will work with the dog to try and fix the nipping.
firstly giving a dog back after 4 months, u clearly didnt take the time to even try and work out the dogs problem, and besides i would never send a dog back for nipping,
nipping can be worked out of dog with proper consistant training, and i know this from personal experience

also i dno Dr2little might be able to say more about this, but no behaviourist is gonna tell you to take it to a shelter, re-homing a dog is alway the best option, why should the shelter have to pay for the dogs maitenence just because you werent commited enough

Then what should have I done with this dog if your so smart tell me we did work with it go ahead tell me exactly what I should've done with a dog that hated children and chased cats when we were lied to and said it didnt bite or chase cats. Not to mention a certified behaviorlist telling us to get rid of it.
u should have decensitised it to cats, it most probably didnt hate the cat it just wanted to play, i know thats how it worked with my harley, so we got him really tired from running, etc then introduced him to the cats, with him in his crate, because he was so tired he didnt really care and then over time he got used to them,

also no good behaviourist is going to tell you to get rid of a dog.

i personally think u just werent committed enough to this dog to try and stick it out through his problems until you reached the sweet baby inside

You didn't seem to be able to train the last one though.

Ok..I'm sorry HAVE A ROTT.....but something about your story just doesn't add up to me...

You said the dog was 9 months and you went to all these so called reputable trainers and all of them said that the dog can't be trained? The dog isn't even fully matured yet! For all we know, it was still teething...or it has behavioral problems as most obnoxious pups do!

You said it was bothering the kids..and then after you said it was aggressive and attacked...how did it attack and how was it aggressive..can you go into some details? And if it really was aggressive and attacked, it should have gone to a behaviorist to be properly assessed and maybe euthanized...you just dumped it back at the shelter?....

I personally don't think you are ready for another dog..its my opinion..you have the wrong perceptions on certain breeds and you just need to do some research..looks like your making conclusions because your friends owned this type of dog and it did this, or your uncle had this dog and it did that...sorry but that doesn't tell you anything about breeds or dogs in general, or how to take care of their training and behavior problems...you say you have experience because you trained your uncle's dog? That tells us what exactly?..............Nadda

*shrugs* IMO...

Everything has already been said here. I just want to say that I second that you should NOT get another dog. It was extremely irresponsible of you to take the other to the pound. if he was aggressive with kids he would had been PTS. I am not sure i believe much of your story at all. I dont think you realize what having a dog is.

I have nothing to say to the op. It's all been said already. As for the people who are encouraging him to get another dog... well that's quite another story. How could you? This was a nine month old puppy who, if this was not a blatant lie, was only lucky to have been placed. Do you have no compassion at all for the next dog who will only land up in a shelter for doing what all puppies do? This person obviously has no notion of what it means to dedicate yourself to the rearing and training of a dog and will constantly fail in their endevours to do so, at great cost to the dogs involved. If you read his posts carefully you will get the idea. This puppy chewed and nipped. ALL puppies do that. I don't think the dog was the problem at all, the owner's expectations were, along with his obvious inability to control and train a normal dog.

Change of heart: would the original poster please give me his excuse for not returning the dog to the shelter he got it from? Oh, sorry, I forgot. They might place it with a family who would prove him wrong....

Exactly! What I was getting at earlier.. either it attacked or it didn't.. if it did actually attack, like you stated earlier, it should NEVER have been dumped at a shelter.. if all training options were exhausted and nothing worked, YES the dog should be humanely euthanized..

I made the mistake of not reading the entire thread before suggesting a breed to him. I thought I originally misunderstood him because I read through it too quickly.

How many times do we see Threads going completey off track of what the OP Was origanally posting about?
Then everyone will say (after the bashing) that the question asked should have been answered before the Mud slinging begun.
I answered the question about a good family dog............i didn't say go and get one.....just simply answered a question!!

What about a terrior breed.. they are active and usually good natured. Might be able to keep up with kids and their high energy.
oh my god no. terrier breeds = prey drive = chasing small animals. they also tend to be very smart, not that easy to train, often somewhat temperamental, and, i think, NOT a good choice for this OP.

Actually the dog was a year old when we returned it They told us it was suppose to be nine months but they were wrong because when you calculate the time they went through heat and no one has given me a good alternative other then to have returned the dog I cant rehome it or it wouldve bitten one of the kids. Any ways the dog got picked up in like a 3 days after they evalulated it.
If the dog bites someone else then the shelter can put her down im not paying to put the dog down when Im not even sure if it couldnt do better at another home without children.
They lied to me and pawned the dog off to me now they can put it down.
and we did go to behaviorlist.

Uh, Caren and Bailey, not what I was referring to. You only said that they make good family pets, and that I agree with. Sorry if I offended you.
