I love this breed. I think they are gorgeous. I have yet to see one in person.

Just thought I would share some pictures that I found while researching the breed.

My old boss has one of the best Beacueron lines in the country, has the #1 male in the country right now in fact. Gorgeous dogs; I'd love to have one from her lines. They have the double back dewclaw same as the Great Pyrenees.

I love the French Beauceron. They were one of my finalist breeds before choosing the Doberman. I have seen two in my life. They work on a Search and Rescue unit that Chico's trainers volunteers on. They are sweet dogs and complete opposites. One is loud and barks and very hyper and is small and the other one never barks, very passive and huge. They are so beautiful.

As much as I like merling in most other breeds (duh :D ) I favor the black and rust over the merle in Beauces.

I agree. I prefer the black and tan ones also.

Last I heard, they were recently accepted by the AKC, and are competing in the miscellaneous class. I'm really excited to start seeing some of these guys at shows- they're stunning dogs.

There are so many Beauce breeders who are *pissed* about that too, they fought really hard against it, but someone pushed the registration through anyway, so I think the original Beauce club has locked it's breeding books or something along those lines to prevent the usual AKC train-wreck.

I've no doubt that they're upset about it. I can think of several breed clubs at the moment that are fighting their hardest to keep their breeds from being AKC recognized. As much as I love showing my dogs in conformation, I can't say I blame these breeders for being upset.

Shibas weren't accepted all that long ago, and we're definitely seeing an unwelcome increase in popularity. I've started seeing Shiba pups in pet stores, and white Shibas being sold as "rare." All we can hope to do is educate the public as much as possible about how this breed is a bad fit for the *majority* of the population.

Needless to say, I'll still be excited to see my first Beauceron in person.
