Ever since Bear was little, he eats plastic (bags, etc); he's only 2 years old now. Well a few days ago instead of just clawing at the shower curtain liner, he ate a big piece. Two days ago he threw up some food and then yesterday he threw up liquid and blood. I took him into the animal emergency hospital for x-rays. He has something in his stomach. He is now on intravenous to try to see if fluids will help slide it out of his system. The vet is going to give it awhile and if nothing happens, surgery will be next. I really hope Bear will be okay. He just loves his plastic. I do hope he passes it as my vet bill for this morning is already $340. I would do anything for my pets, but I just need to also complain about how expensive vets are. So far he's been there for 2 hours. If surgery is needed, they will call to ask approval. I'm going to give it a little more time and call to see how he's doing.

Well I called and they are keeping him overnight. So far he's resting comfortably and getting fluids. If something changes, they will call and let me know. I'm really hoping he will be able to pass what's in his tummy and not require surgery.

had a kitten that swallowed the very tip of a baby bottle and it partial blocked his intestines. He still had bowel movements and ate, but he didn't grow an ounce. I thought he was just a midget cat but the people i gave him to took him to the vet and they xrayed his stomach trying to figure out why he didnt grow. That is what they found. I wish your cat could choose to do something else, that is not a good attraction.

Oh Barb, i'm so sorry!! I'm sure he will be fine!! I totally know what you are going through, not really the same thing but I had all of mine "fixed" last week and I was on tenterhooks all day long, these cats are a real worry, and it's amazing how empty the house is without them tottering about!

We'll be keeping our fingers and paws crossed for Bear, and wishing him a speedy recovery!!

The vet just called and they couldn't get him to eat anything. She took another x-ray and the mass is still in the same spot. Bear is scheduled for surgery before noon and I'll get a call after he wakes up. The vet will also check his intestines to make sure there's nothing there also. I'm just so worried. When I called earlier this morning and spoke to the techinician, I tried to give her my phone number and all I could do was give her their phone number. I couldn't remember mine. Bear is a character and was so missed last night.

Bear came through surgery with flying colors! The vet found 3 pieces of the plastic shower curtain inside him. He's staying overnight for observation and should come home tomorrow. I was searching through my pics and found this one of him when I first brought him home at 3 lbs!

I have a soon to be 14 year old cat that LOVES to eat plastic.
We try so hard to keep it away but sometimes we forget and she finds it.
She especially loves the yellow handles on garbage bags.
I hope everything goes well with Bear, he is soooo cute!!!
Let us know when he is fully recovered!
