Jadex, LOL. That's Jose`. He's been through so many dogs in his life time...in our family. He gets along with everyone. Thanks. He's actually blue, not black. He's quite a neat color actually.

I love all the photos of the Beagles here...really great. They are cute dogs for sure...very pretty and make the most adorable puppies.

When I was very young and lived in NJ, our next door neighbor had a whole bunch of them. He hunted and they were his hunting dogs. I remember vaguely because I was really quite young, how they bayed and howled. Sometimes they could really get to singing. And then someone must have told them to stop and they did. So it wasn't like the were noisy all the time.

One thing I don't like able beagles which is going to sound weird is that they're physically...hard.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? All the beagles I've known have gone kind of stiff when you pick them up. They don't flop into you like lots of other dogs. Even when they lay with you, they seem stiff and hard and not cuddly, even if they are cuddling. I probably sound crazy but hopefully someone knows what I mean.

Maybe because most (5/6) beagles I've spent time with were way overweight. Which is another point: they are prone to obesity, so keeping an eye on diet and exercise is extra important.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned to the OP how destructive they can be,especially over food? Leave a plastic container of food in the pantry, and the door might get opened, and the bin might get knocked over, chewed open, and eaten.

I've never worked with a destructive beagle, and I've spent a lot of time with probably close to 10 of them. They have, however, been pretty amazing counter surfers for their size. I've never seen one chew or open cabinets, but I have seen plenty of them standing on a kitchen table. They do love food. One I knew knocked a treat under a washing machine and cut his forehead open trying to get it. But I haven't ever encountered them destroying property.
