Beagle is overweight, no idea why

the last time I checked, all of those veggies had calories. Do they only count for people, and not dogs? Things like carrots are full of sugars/starches.

I wouldn't feed anything to make up for the missed volume of food. The dog will get used to it soon enough.
Smokey was starting to gain a bit of weight, so my vet recommended adding no-salt canned veggies like peas, green beans and carrots mixed with the kibble. The calories are very low in these products and they fill the dog up mixed with the smaller serving of kibble , and surprisingly to me, Smokey loves the veggies and licks the bowl clean.....

Yes, you are right!!! and beagles tend to be dogs that are a "hungary breed" and if they think they are hungary they will eat anything in site, even if it isn't edible. So i always mix veggies with my girls food if they are on a diet, they are much happier and better behaved then when they think they are starving and looking for somethign to eat non stop.
