Hello, I live about one and half hours south east of St. Louis, Missouri and am very interested in the basenji breed. I have been researching them for over two years and I want to interact with a basenji and talk to their owner about their experiences before coming to a final decision. You do not have to have puppies available, although that would be a plus. I am willing to drive pretty far just to meet you and your dog (in public of course). If you're willing to help me out please respond. Thank you :)

Go to the Canine Games at Purina Farms this Sunday. One of the guys with the sled dog/pulling group has basenjis and is usually there with his dogs. I think there's a weight pulling trial coming up at Purina, too, and he competes in that, as well as lure coursing. Check the SLASH schedule for upcoming coursing meets.

You should check out the Basenji Club of America.

And also the Basenji Club of Southeaster WI (which has members all over the Midwest).

Breed clubs are good places for breeder recommendations. Also there is a basenji specific forum online.

Also you probably will not find anyone with young puppies right now. Basenji bitches usually only come into season once a year and that time is pretty much during this time of year. Breeding is what will be happening right now with litters being born usually from November to February. :)
