Hi all and thanks for any help I can get. I have and 11week old heeler/lab. She seems to be smart but some times I wonder. We have had her for 2 1/2 wks. Slow on the potty training and when I try to put her i the crate she barks continuously. I try no to let her out till she is quiet for a minute or two. I would love to have her enjoy her crate but the barking has got to stop. It is very hard to train when she is barking. the other issue is some times when I have miss a pee it is just a dribble but the next time she seems to flood the floor Helpppp.m Thanks in advance.

She's only a puppy and will make occassional mistakes! I would go read a sticky thread on potty training on Training Forum. I used it myself to train my puppy! Also, at that age, she probably needs to go out pretty frequently. Try not to give her any chance to make an accident in the house.

With the barking, you just need her to bark it out. Don't give her any attention, not even a "no!" You are on the right track by letting her out only when she's been quiet. This will teach her that barking won't get her out the crate. Did you try introducing the crate to her first? First, letting her explore it, sniffing, and what not. Then, put some enjoyable treats in there for her to find. Each time she goes close or in it, praise her like crazy. Eventually, she'll love her crate because she associates it with good feelings/treats. When you first leave her in there, don't let it be any longer than 30 minutes. Then you can increase the amount of time away. I fill my dog's kong toy with peanut butter and only give it to him ONLY when he's in his crate. He nows RUNS and gets into his crate in the mornings when I leave for work. Also, make sure you don't use crate to punish her. It'll stop eventually! Still working on training my dog not to bark at night... he wants to come to bed with me! It's hard to ignore his cries and barks especially living in an apartment, but it's a must to train him!

seems like she's not associating her crate wth fun. make every thing good include crate. feed her in there. play with her in it, alwas make it the fun safe spot for her.

start with it in a room its okay if she has an accident in. like a laundry. feed her in her crate. play with her in it etc.
Then close the door while she's eating, but open it again before she's done.
then slowly increase the time till your leaving her in there for a coupld of minutes with you still in the room.

work on it till you can leave the room with her int he crate with no crying, if she does cry, you'll have to wait it out. annoying i know.

You could also put a kong in her crate aswell to keep her occupied.
toielt training will take a while yet, but stick with it
