Shameless secret Santa info thread. :p

Who likes fur savers on their dogs? If you don't, why not?

For those who train or play with toys, do you like using balls on a rope, or on their own? Any balls you're interested in trying?

And go!

My dogs don't do chokes so have never needed a different kind.

Oh ball tugs. I think my guys have found the ball makes the tug move more interestingly but they never bite the ball lol.

Fursavers: would like to, but I'm cheap.

Balls on a rope: dogs have no interest.

Watson has almost no interest in balls unless they are on a rope. Balls on ropes are awesome, though he does bite primarily on the rope.

I just buy the green Chuck-it balls and thread cheap rope from the hardware store through the holes. We have a bunch and they are hands down his favorite toys. He eventually chews through the rope but it's only like $0.50 per foot.

I've thought about getting one of those magnetic ball on a rope toys, but just my luck he would hate it. Sticking with my cheap made up ones for now.

I have never tried a fur saver, so no opinion there.

Hudson likes balls, ropes, balls with ropes. He uses the rope for the tugging and the carrying.

fur savers are nice and easy. My dogs never wear anything usually unless we're in a leash only place or sometimes for training. Easy to slip on and off. Just attach the leash to a link, I don't ever have to look for the clip and when taking off, I just toss in a box.

I use balls, but not as often as I used to. I value my fingers and hands too much. Tugs are much safer and offer a more stable target for me.

We don't use chokes, so a fur saver would get no use here.

We like balls off tugs better than on, but I think that's probably because I've only ever bought cheap ones. If it held up a ball on a rope would be better for my fingers than a ball off a tug!

Would be willing to try a ball on a rope... the only dog who would use a fursaver would be the Pom as he's the only one with fur ;) and he'd need like a 10" lol

i don't know anybody that uses a fursaver as a choke collar.
Lol, I was biting my tongue since it's not largely important, but I'm glad you said it!

My dogs wear fur savers to keep their coat and to have something to grab onto if I need it. If I clip a leash to it, it is most certainly not live. And they make cool colors now! (Reason for me asking- vending at USCA Nats)

But a fur saver can still get caught and tighten like a choke right? I just have no need?
Yes and no. Years ago I walked a Newf that was in rescue on one. The ring doesn't slide as easily on the Fursaver links as it does a regular choke/slip collar. The martingale wouldn't tighten like a choke/slip at all. ;)

they can, but i never have them on my dogs unless I'm using them and then it's always clicked on the first link my leash latches too, never on the ring that could make it a choke.

Any collar can choke a dog, it's around their neck and if it gets caught on something wrong it can be bad. Or they just back out of it in which case you have a dog running without a collar, or maybe they just lay there and do nothing and wait for you to get home. I just leave my collars off when I'm not using them

Fursavers are a big yes for me. I love the way they look on a Rottweiler. They are my collars that I work the boys in obedience. That's the only time they wear them. The collars have a very distinctive sound and when the boys hear me pick them up....they get all excited because they get to work/practice.
Lars has a brass one and Ocean has a copper colored alloy one.

Lars wearing his:

As for toys?? I don't do the ball tugs...I am a MooTugs disciple. http://www.mootugs.com/ The boys love them and they hold up well. I have both the handled ones and the plain moo tubes for agility rewards. I like that I can fold the tubes up in my hand and they are easy to throw towards O when he nails something in agility.

I like fursavers, and wish I could get colored ones, but my pups are wearing smaller sizes that are hard to find in long links, let alone long links with colors. They are Aeri and Kes' 'working' collars for IPO.

Aeri, Kes, and Snipe all like balls on a rope, but I'm kind of picky - I like handles that don't rip up my hands, knotted ends vs. loops or toggles, and chuckit ball sized or smaller. Squishy is better for Kes and Snipe, more solid for Aeri.

Fursavers: Not my thing. I don't have breeds that would look very good in them IMO. To me they are for protection sport dogs only. I like leather, biothane and pretty nylon only generally speaking.

Balls on ropes: Yes!! As long as the strap isn't nylon/hard on the hands. I kind of want one of those squishy green balls on a rope if it's small enough (medium chuckit size) to fit in Journey's mouth for easy grabbing for tugging. There was also a small rope ball on the leerburg website that looked perfect for Journey. But I have no idea what it's called.

Fur saver? Yes I think so, I've never had one but they look nifty!

I think Merlin would love ball on a rope! I saw a hollee roller ball attached to one and thought it would be great for him but really want something that maybe can be thrown via chuckit lol Merlin likes any ball really, squeaky bouncy whatever
