So watching the video of the Terv made me want to train the same behavior. Which I'm probably too lazy to do, but I figured I could at least teach my dogs to put a ball in something, which I've never done. It then occurred to me that the ball in something was probably irrelevant, if I wanted to teach my dogs to choose based on a concept, I could have used an already trained behavior. But I really wanted to teach this. I chose to use an old pot that I have used for other trained behaviors, and is large enough to be easy for the dogs to get the ball in.

I found them very cute in learning the behavior. It's different than what they've learned before. Pirate was sure I wanted him either in the pot, or on the ball. Tess mostly just wanted to fetch the ball. I've made progress anyway. This is most of our 3rd session (3rd session in 4 days, I took a break day) filmed. Pirate:

If you get bored of watching it, at least skip to the last 10 seconds. What a rascal!

Tess was more of a challenge, because I had to get around the heavily reinforced behavior of bringing me the ball (Pi is a rotten retriever, so that wasn't so hard to do with him). So, I decided to train her to put her head in the pot, put that on cue, then try and get her to do it with the ball. The head in the pot was easy to teach, getting her to do it with the ball, a bit more challenging. She does get the ball in the pot a few times here, but I think the behavior is a ways out from her understanding it. OTOH, her attempts to figure it out are adorable, especially when she turns the pot on end to get her head more fully in it.

She really, really tries.

Oh, and forgive my geekiness, and the sloppy condition of my home.
