We went to the dog beach today -- our favorite weekend activity. 
On the way in, he was racing down the boardwalk to the beach, and wiped out. He acted fine after and I laughed at him for forgetting his brakes. When we were leaving, he came out of the water and starting favoring one of his front legs -- wouldn't walk on it and kept licking it. When I looked him over, I saw an abrasion on the leg that was bleeding. When I got home, I realized that there was a small puncture wound on the front leg (in addition to a couple of abrasions near his groin).
So, off to the e-vet we went. And not the one 2 miles away, but the one a half hour away, because they share an office with his internal medicine vet (so I trusted them and I knew they'd have his records).
They cleaned up him and gave me antibiotics and probiotics and a large bill.
I feel so guilty. Either I laughed at him when he got hurt, or I didn't see what happened that hurt him (which must have happened in a matter of seconds, as I'm a bit of a helicopter dog mom at the beach and keep a close eye on him). He's fine. No beach tomorrow but other than that he won't suffer too much.
Just had to vent. I know it's worth it for all the fun he has, but it still sucks.
