If I thought there was any chance of her making it, I would have taken her in. To be blunt, her insides were hanging out and the only movement was her very shallow breathing and her occasionally licking my hand. The closest vet is 30 minutes away with no traffic, and I didn't want to stress her any more. I wish I had one closer...the joys of living in the country I guess
How horrific! Thats really sad! Im glad you were there for her

I keep a towel and a horse wrap ( in case of need for a muzzle etc. ) in the car in case I run into a situation like this . Luckily I've never had to use them .

Its so terrible you had to experience that...at least you were there for her when she needed you. What angers me is how you seem to be the only one who stopped to care for her, especially how the person who hit her didn't bother to check if she was alive, or if they did, didn't care.

((((HUGS)))) Sorry you had to go through that. The dog was probably happy to have your company though :)

R.I.P. Doggy :(

Aww...that's so sad. :( Poor doggie! How can anyone run over a dog and just leave them there? :( *shakes head*

What you did was VERY sweet and kind, I'm glad the dog didn't have to die alone and in pain with no one to listen to in the middle of a road. :( This makes me want to cry...

(((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))) What you did was really sweet, I hope I never have to be in a situation like that. :( It must've been horrible.

Rest in Peace doggie! (Did you find the name of the dog on his/her caller by any chance? Sorry if I missed this...)

oh cowgurl, I am so sorry. Did the dog seem to die peacefully? I know sometimes severe trauma to the body like that leaves them numb from the pain. I am so glad you were with her as she made her journey to the rainbow bridge. I can't help but think her licking you was to thank you for your compassion and to tell you she was going to be at peace soon. (((hugs, and more hugs)))
Well said, Nancy.

Cowgurl.. thank you for helping that sweet angel.

OMG! Your story brought tears to my eyes. That is just so sad. No dog deserves to go that way, ever.:(

It's great she wasn't alone in the road when she died. You helping her was the last gift to her during her life and she knew it...

Oh, how incredibly sad! Thank God you were with her when she passed. It would have been much worse had she died alone. I agree with the others...I think that her licking you was a thank you for being there and being compassionate. I'm just glad that she had you.
