well I'm on a fish forum and one of the people was posting about her dog and mentioned she had puppies and I said "she and her puppies are adorable, do you show her?" she said "no I don't show her I don't think she would stay still long enough for that stuff LOL". Now I want to respond to her but I want her to listen and not get on the defensive. The pups look pure to me so I don't think it was an oops. How should I respond to her do you think?

I wouldn't do it on an open forum.

You'll embarass her and make her defensive... PM her, and be POLITE.

It is unfortunate we can't just smack people hard right through our computer screens. My guess is no matter what you say to her, she's convinced already that she's doing a great thing.

this is what she said, I know her reasons are completely wrong and I don't think having a gun dog matters, they don't mention she won anything as a gun dog. It's sad that people actually think they have done everything right. I don't know what she means by "checks" but I mentioned health screenings in what I wrote to her. I hope she does not breed anymore, it sounds like she won't. I don't want to push or she may become angry with me...what's done is done I guess...I just wish I could teach her.

Hi my dog is pedigree and had checks before we breed from her, she is from field trial stock and is a gun dog herself.I agree about the responsable breeding, but we felt we wanted 1 litter of pups from her knowing afew people who had admired her and said they wanted a pup should we go ahead and all were found good homes to responsable people. We have afew puppy farms round here and they are a disgrace, breeding all sorts of pups, many with problems.
Tails were'nt docked because i don't agree with it and it is now illegal. My vet said dew claw removal is an unessasary practice and as we had no problems(up untill i forgot to cut them)we decided against that too Its good to have caring people so no offence taken Angel

I don't know...if the dog is a genuine working dog and has had all the appropriate testing done before being bred, I don't see a problem with it. People who work their dogs take great pride in working ability and I would think the best working dogs (the ones who prove they can do the job) are the ones who are bred.

Conformation showing isn't the only way to prove a dog is worthy of breeding. This bitch may well be a very good example of her breed and be excellent at the job she was bred to do, along with having wonderful health.

Without knowing more details about the people, the dogs and the situation I don't think it's right to judge her.

Now if the dog was a pet and she just bred her for the heck of it, that would be another story. ;)

Cass.

ETA: "Showing" refers to the conformation dog shows. At their base they're suppose to help evaluate breeding stock. To help prove the dog looks the way it should look.

what does showing mean?
Showing in the show ring. It is how you prove your dog conforms to the standard of her breed. If your dog is out of standard she should not be bred because she would not be helping her breed, she does not fit what her breed actually is. The only way to know you have a dog that is standard you need to show her and have her win a few championships.

Well, yeah that's the problem I don't know if she is actually a proven working dog or that they just do it for fun occasionally. I also don't know if by checks she meant official health screenings. Maybe she did and her dog is a proven working dog, if so then I also believe she has the right to breed her.
