and the little Wonder Twins rocked! I attended a 3 day UKC event in NC (drove up .... ugh, a long drive!).

All wins for regular APR class, 12.5" - 15"

Friday - Spud won Flats, OE won Steeples
Saturday - Spud won both Flats and Steeples
Sunday - OE won both Flats and Steeples
On Sunday, OE was very close to winning Overall Fastest as well (where the winning regular dog races against the winning CH and Grand CH for the fastest in each height division). She fought hard, but couldn't over power the bigger boys at the hole. But she sure tried! <3

Lots of really good competition too, running against dogs they've never seen, but they still pulled it off. So proud! They should both have their racing Champion titles pretty soon!

Was it the Hickory event? I was there Saturday and Sunday.

Darn, I would've loved to have met your terriers.

Congrats though!

I'm really falling for the amht.

Yes, it was the UKC Carolina Classic in Hickory. I was also showing in conformation with Spud (no wins, but she's a different type, so judges love or hate her), plus we did terrier racing and tried weight pull (too soon for her though, I need to train her more before we try that again). OE is already a GRCH, and doesn't want to pull, so she only did TR.

A good AHT is an awesome dog. You just need to be sure to get one with a strong temperament. There are some out there that are kind of skittish - not terrier-like at all - and they should be a tough little dog.

Congratulations; I saw some photos on a friend's Facebook; Richard Hunter was there taking photos. My friend showed her Central Asian Shepherd and her Borzoi and did amazingly well; she's over the top!

How/what did you do to train your guys for the racing? I want Jiggs to try in August; (we are in Canada so have only a few times to play with the racing end) and our co-ordinator for the show is having lure coursing and terrier racing; so want him to have some fun.

Yay!!! Glad you guys did so good!

Wish I had realized you guys were going to be over there! It would have been a great excuse for me to take off and go see the dogs since it's not that far from me :)

Their father is an awesome GRCH racing dog, so some of it is just genetic. I introduced them to the muzzle and flirt pole/various lures at a young age and just ensured that they stay in good muscle and eat a proper diet. From there, I can't take any credit - these girls do it naturally! :)

Went and looked at the pics again; saw your guys; always looks like so much fun.
What is the lure usually; I've seen plastic bags and I think a fuzzy toy?
I can certainly give him the idea; but I'd like to get him used to the options.

For lure coursing, most people seem to use plastic bags. For racing, it seems they're using de-stuffed toys. I haven't seen anyone use real fur, but you really don't need it. The varmint catching drive seems to be alive, even if there isn't real prey. :)

As far as encouraging drive, I found lure coursing to be a huge help with my dogs. Spud would run, but was not winning; she was coming in 2nd and 3rd pretty consistently. Once we started lure coursing with her, she started winning Flats (or coming in 2nd to her sister). Still have an issue with Steeples that she doesn't know (does real well on one track, but when running on new courses, she stops and surveys the hurdle before jumping).
