It's just about time for the baby to be here! The plug is gone and the technical due date is 2wks away. Don't know if we'll make it to then. I'm hoping to have him out before Thanksgiving though. But guess it's up to him.

I CAN tell you this.... I so don't want to go into labor while at work. =-S Not my idea of a fun time. LOL!

Ah... I feel a little rested after my nap over lunch. Still tired though. Which it was an hour lunch! I feel better when I'm lying down. :)

It's our first baby so it's quite nerve racking! Not sure what to expect except eventually some painfull contractions at some point. My MIL was saying that it couldn't be too much longer since I wasn't feeling the best and such over the weekend. The ladies here at work are picking days. LOL! I don't think he'll make his appearance tonight, although it would be interesting seeing that it's hubby's birthday today. ;)

Well... the mucus plug isn't really a good indicator that labor is going to start soon.... apparently it can grow back  BUT hopefully you will have your little one fairly soon and not overdue like I was lol.

Like I told Reggin.... Labor is really NOT that bad so don't listen to all the horror stories. I'm not gonna tell you it is not painful.... but it is the pain most easily forgotten. Hubby asked me after I had Hannah how bad it was and I said "at the time? it SUCKED.... but looking back now (not even 24 hours later) it really wasn't that bad."

Are you planning on having an epidural? Just in case no one told you I will give you fair warning that it does NOT stop the pressure and pain you feel when you are pushing and delivering... you WILL feel it regardless. It only helps with contractions. But just push as hard as you can and do what they tell you to do.... push when they tell you to push even if it seems like you can't muster up another one... trust me YOU CAN and you will. Don't think about how hard it is.... don't think about the pain... just concentrate on each push as it comes and you will do great.

Good luck and congrats ahead of time :D

Most of my friends have had the epidural and they all think I'm crazy but I want to do it natural. I personally don't like the idea of any needle getting anywhere near my spine unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm a tough cookie I think I can do it. It's all mind set right!? =-S

Thanks for the advise Sparks!

***baby vibes***

I lost my mucous plug three weeks before Aurelia finally showed up. Hopefully your baby should get here sooner than that since it's only 2 weeks to the due date!

Sparks is right. Everybody told me how horrible labor is and I was scared to death. Then my friend Laura poo-pooed them all. She had both of her children at home with a midwife, natural. She says, and I found this to be true, that it really hurts, but your body will not give you more pain than you can handle. It hurts, but at the same time it feels just really really neat to be pushing a little person out of your body. I could feel Aurelia's face as she was being born, it was really weird but neat lol. Don't feel too scared, and enjoy it as much as you can.

Of course, if they give you pitocin, then your body isn't in control of the contractions and their intensity any more, so that rule about no more pain than you can handle goes out the window. In that case feel free to use as many drugs as you want. :p

A lady at my work has two children, one natural and one with the epidural. She said the epidural helped a little during the contractions, did nothing while she was pushing, and the spot on her back where they put it in hurt like the dickens for weeks after her baby was born. On the other hand, without the epidural she said the contractions were a little more intense, but plenty bearable. Pushing out was about the same, and after a few days she felt fine and had no back pain from an epidural site. So she recommends no epidural. I went natural, and Aurelia was 9 lbs.

A couple more pieces of advice:
When they say to rest when labor starts, DO IT. I felt like cleaning the house which everybody said would happen, and so I cleaned the house. Big mistake. You really will need every bit of energy to push that baby out. I think things would have gone a bit smoother if I had rested instead.

When you are pushing, all you have to do is get the baby's head and shoulders out. A lot of pressure while that is happening, but once they are through, the rest of the baby follows very fast.

You can do it! It's going to go great. We can't wait to see pics of the baby. :)

I had my daughter two and a half weeks early. About one week after loosing my mucous plug (such a gross term *shudder*) I woke up and my water broke. Off to the hospital I went and met my daughter 7 hours later. Everyone's timing and experience is different. My sister delivered two babies without ANY drugs...I swore I could do it too. Needless to say I made it to 2 cm and was DYING! LOL! My daughter was posterior (sp) so the back labor was horribly intense! You'll make it through and do great. It doesn't last forever and you get the greatest gift in the end. Honestly, even with all the pain of labor and delivery I never felt more empowered in all of my life. Best of luck and I think it's time to LEAVE work and REST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as the boss doesn't give me any headaches and troubles.... fat chance.... I'll be fine. At least he's not here today. LOL!

Well right now we were about 2cm as of last week. I'm imagining that we'll be just a bit more on Wednesday when we go in. Slowly but surely he'll be here in no time. :p

How are your dogs acting? The night before I went into labor, Alice insisted she sit right on my stomach and not move. It was such an odd behavior at the time, but looking back on it she knew!

When Alice (my pug) was pregnant and her temp dropped and my vet said it was time my other female pug wouldn't leave the side of her pen. She would sit there and not move except to come over and scratch my leg to "tell me" what was about to happen.

Dogs know...when they start acting weird it's close!!!

See I had to be induced with pitocin because I had low fluid (I was already overdue but they were going to let me go about a week more but low fluid can be dangerous) I didn't feel any contractions at all until about 5 hours later. After that things were just progressing SO slowly. I was not dialating at all 8 hours later.... I was still at 1 cm... nothing had changed. So I figured FORGET THIS... if this is going to take another 8+ hours of contractions I am not gonna suffer... give me the epidural lol. Luckily I did... After having the epidural they cranked up my pitocin to hopefully get things moving along... and that finally did it.... about another 6 to 7 hours until I was fully dialated and ready to push... then I only had to push for 18 minutes. I didn't experience any back pain at the epidural site afterwards.... but I think the worst part of the whole thing was when they peeled all the tape off haha.

but yeah... pitocin cancels out the "only as much pain as your body can handle" lol I actually had the epidural before the pain got really bad... but I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I didn't have it. My labour was going nowhere fast and it wasn't until after the epidural that things finally started happening for me. they were concerned they would have to end up giving me a C section because I wasn't making any progress before the epidural. Once I had that everything just opened up so to speak LOL

Well Tweeder rarely leaves my side but that's usual behavior for him. We were at the inlaws yesterday and their sheltie Weaver noticebly acting weird that my MIL had to say something. So she thinks that it's close. Then there's Zoe who LOVES her daddy and on Saturday she sat between the both of us and instead of laying on him she rested her head on my belly. :) Then last night as I was up in the baby's room orginizing and folding baby clothes Angel wouldn't leave my side. She ended up falling asleep on the floor near me just watching.

OMG, so exciting! You're about where I am at. I had a pelvic exam last wednesday and was 2 cm too. My next exam is this wednesday. I cant wait for the next exam and I bet you cant wait for yours either. Did the doc say how effaced you are? I wish you the best of luck!!! We are lucky to get such great advice from this forum.
