I know Mason is 9 months already, but when he was little he was so good about being in the stroller while shopping and would nap or whatever. But now half the time I end up carrying him because he gets tired of being in the stroller. But he is so heavy and it is hard to shop one handed.

So I am looking for a good baby carrier or I guess I should say toddler carrier. I have the jeep carrier, which he never really cared for and it isn't really comfortable for me.

Has anyone used a baby carrier for their older babies?

Someone on another forum recommended the Ergo carrier...has anyone here used that?

My baby is 6 months and I use the moby wrap (very comfortable) and the maya ring sling (less comfortable but easier to use. still comfy though). I use the moby if I know I'll carry her for a very long time and the maya if I need to get her in and out because it is easier. She weighs a little over 16 lbs. Way better than using a stroller! I wish I had known about them with my first, life would have been way simpler.

I have a baby sling, but he is nearly 20 pounds and likes to be upright. I used that a bit when he was an infant, but he wouldn't fit in it now. And he does not like to be held like a baby anymore :(

I had a Moby Wrap when Devin was young and really loved it. Once she got a little heavier though, I didn't care for it as much. I have a sling which I hated when she was little, but I have thought about trying it again now that she can support herself and maybe even try a back carry.

I got a Mei Tai and that is what I use now when she wants to be carried. I shopped around a lot to find one that was both affordable and comfortable and THIS is the person I ended up ordering mine from. I actually bought another one too from a different place but really don't like it because the panel is too narrow and the straps aren't comfortable. But the one linked above I still LOVE! The placement of the straps makes it so Devin can put her arms above them and isn't quite so confined. The straps are wide and I ordered them padded so I am always very comfortable wearing it. We are taking a plane trip in April and I plan to take it with me just in case.

Oh, I meant to mention, you know you can use a lot of the slings in an upright position, right? I personally like the weight to be evenly distributed over both shoulders which is why I don't really like the sling, but anything beats carrying them!

I know they can sit on your hip in the sling, I just wouldn't feel like it is secure enough because he moves around a lot.

strap him into the stroller and ignore all the fussing til he stops? lol

20 pounds is ALOT to be carrying when your trying to shop or do anything.. I would say just let him get used to the stroller

I guess when I have seen it, it was with a ring sling where you can tighten and loosen it, but I know exactly what you are talking about because I never thought it was secure enough either. Just thought I would mention it since you already had one and wasn't sure if you had tried it yet or not. That is why I like my Mei Tai. :) Lots of people swear by their slings, even for older children, but I just don't feel the same.

I never liked the sling. I love my Mei Tei. I got one made on Etsy and it's much like the Babyhawk, except it was only 40 bucks instead of 100

You can get all kinds of slings that go up to like three years old and like 30-40 lbs. I think if it doesn't feel secure, even with him wiggling, you're probably not wrapping it right. It's supposed to be TIGHT.

Do you have one of those little push strollers that he could look out of more easily? Maybe if he could look around more he wouldn't fuss as much.

I don't have a wrap. Mine is just a fabric sling, there is no wrapping to it.
The one I have is similar to this, but my SIL made it for me:

It's not about whether he can see. It is that he either wants mommy holding him, or he wants to be down playing. Sometimes he does really good in the stroller, and usually he does for a while, until he gets tired of it. I don't mind carrying him, and I would like to have a carrier that is comfortable so that I can, but still shop easily.

I tried on the one you have pictured and I didn't like it. Plus it hurt my shoulder. The ring sling is very nice, my baby sits up in it, plus I can put her on my hip but I still feel the need to keep my arm around her like that. The mei tai sounds cool, my husband would but probably think I am nuts if I bought a third carrier though. Is there any way you could try any on? I bought the moby sight unseen tried the other kinds on after to see if I liked them better.

I would look into a wrap, then...or just get some toys for the stroller? Like the ones that can clip across it?

All of my friends who have the Moby gave up on it when the baby became bigger because it stretched too much, but I have friends who have woven wraps and still use them because they don't stretch
