Little Lodin is nearing 18 months and hasn't grown in over half a year. Hard to believe my little puppy is all grown up already. He weighed in on the vet scale at 34lbs, and was officially measured for his temp height card last week at 19-3/4"

Now...time to go do things :)

He turned into such a handsome dog, and I am in love with his size. I keep worrying that I'm going to be limited to females if I go BC shopping, because it seems like there is such a huge size difference in the genders around here, and I like the little ones. If you could remove about half his coat, Lodin would be pretty much exactly what I was looking for ;)

When does he debut in the ring?

Yeah, he has a lot less coat than many Border Collies, but he still has a lot more coat than say...Meg and Gusto haha.

Late this summer. He's entered in Jumpers and Standard right now (we have to enter everything 2 months in advance here) but I may pull him from Standard before the closing date if I don't think he'll be ready to tackle contacts in a competition setting. I don't have super high expectations for the weekend...just want to see where we are and where our gaps are. Some things only show up when you take the plunge :)

15 years with a Bedlington made me so gun shy about any sort of hair on a dog. It doesn't matter how much people tell me border collies are wash-and-wear, I still flinch at the thought of combing and mats. I don't need a slick coat, but I like the ones with just a touch of fringe.

Which means I'm going wind up with a 50 lb. border collie with the coat of a Yeti, I'm sure.

There had better be video of his first runs!

Yeah there's a reason I prefer the Flatcoat coat. No undercoat, flat-lying hair but with pretty fringe. Not cottony. Kind of my idea of the perfect coat.

Most of Lodin's coat is his neck, pants, and tail. His body isn't that heavily coated, tbh, and it's a nice harsh coat. I had him out in the wood yesterday and he picked up about 200 burrs but at least they just combed out. No mats. I'll take it! I need to get some decent body shot of him though, since I think the head/shoulders shots I tend to get give the illusion of more coat than is real.

There will be video if I have anything to do with it! Should be very entertaining haha

I'm so jealous. At first I think "Oh a border collie is the WORST choice for a first time dog owner like me!" Because said border collie would be alone for 40 hours a day, then I think "I can make it work!" Then I remember these dogs are no joke and need PLENTLY of exercise. Then I go back and forth and back and forth about it. But anyway, Lodin is absolutely adorable! I personally love his coat.
