My Mom and I were busy working on baby stuff all day. Well okay I told her how I wanted it and cut things out and she sewed it. My sewing skills are not great. Got the skirt for around the bottom of the baby bed made, two of the bumpers made and the blanket for the bed made. Since the baby has to be in my room, I wanted to make sure that the bedding would look okay in my room. So everything for this baby's bed is custom made by grandma.

The blanket for the baby's bed started out as just a simple burgundy fleece blanket. Yeah right, like it was going to stay simple. My room is decorated mainly in dragons(with a few fairies and wizards thrown in). I wanted a blanket with dragons on it so bad, but they don't seem to make them, except on some specialty websites that are way to expensive. So I drew a dragon silhouette on paper and cut it out to make a pattern, then we put it on the same material we made the bumpers and the skirt out of and mom sewed it to the blanket. Then she edged the blanket in the same material.

Here a few pics of the baby blanket born of my inspiration and my Mom's patience, hard work, and incredible ablitiy to turn my sewing dreams into reality.

The material was a bit hard to work with when cutting out the dragon, but I think it came out pretty dang good.

The last pic shows the true colors of the blanket the best. For some reason the others came out a little dark.

Interesting choice .... just make sure that you have plenty of colorful things for visual stimulation . More important than your room decor .

Oh trust me, baby has lots of colorful stimulating things just waiting for it. Including to older brothers who are extremely excited about having another sibling. Of course they can't decide if they want it to be a boy or girl. They kind of like the idea of a boy but as my youngest(he's six) pointed out, he already has a brother. My oldest thinks a sister would be neat, except (his words not mine) "girls need all kinds of pink things and always get their way" LOL.

Thanks! I am not a froo froo cutsy type person, so it goes well with my room. Its okay for baby toys and clothes to be cutsy and froo froo, but baby bedding has always driven me crazy. I'm just glad I was able to find a diaper bag that doesn't look like it got attacked by Martha Stewart.

We also have a fold n go for the living room, so baby will only be in my room when sleeping.

Wow very cool :D

You won't need the colorful things until later.... Apparently newborns are most interested and stimulated by black and white contrasts. LOL I printed out a sheet of black and white lines for Hannah the other day.... she can't stop staring at it. I did not know that until the NICU nurses told me.... I came in one day and they had a picture of a black and white bear face and ithought that was pretty BORING lol. But apparently it is very interesting to babies lol and apparently they can only see very bright vibrant colors not pastels for the first little while and they can sometimes be overstimulating and you get a cranky baby.... I learned that one the hard way :(:p lol

Ah the things ya learn after having a baby lol. I didn't know they couldn't see full spectrum and full peripheral vision until about 6 months sometimes longer. AND another interesting tidbit... did you know a baby uses it's eyes individually?! They have to learn to use them together. Wierd huh?

Ok I'm done lol I just find the info about their visual capabilities really interesting... I had no idea lol

LOL the bedding and room decor is always for the parents anyway haha I chose Hannah's set because I like cows and it had a cow on it lol.

LOL!!

My mom is hell bent on my children being decked out in pastel-lacey-frilly-cutesy-gag-me-with-a-spoon stuffs. YUCK!

She makes bedding and what not for nurseries and was soo excited to show me them and wanted me to pick out what I wanted for our nursery so she could make it. I'm not even pregnant! lol

So I told her, fine, find stuff in ______ theme. She found the frilliest-gag-me-with-a-spoon stuff. UGH. Poor unborn baby!

It's a good thing we're moving away- maybe we'll tell her about the baby when when it's near due and already have the nursery decorated. :p

Although, I think it's pretty cool that your mom is helping you out.. with stuff you like. Rock on lilprariemutt's mom. ;)

No I haven't.... do you have a link?

Yeah I actually read somewhere that because of the way a newborns eyes work that black and white stripes actually appear to be moving.... I wish I could see through her eyes just for a moment to see the world the way she does.

It is very interesting how they see as newborns isn't it. That is kind of what I figured, the bedding is for me, baby could care less as long as its fed, dry, and comfy,LOL. Even if baby wasn't going to be in my room I would still do the nursery this way.

My Mom is a huge help. Half the time I only have a vague idea of what I am wanting, I just know I want this and this fabric, she takes that and the knoweledge that I hate froo froo and runs with it. When we get the other two bumpers done, I will post pics of the bed with all of the bedding on it.

It is sooo soft. Its made of the that micro fiber fleecy stuff.

They are way softer than the hotel ones. They are the micro fiber fleece, bigger versions of the lap blanket I bought. They have like a satin ribbon thing around them. I'm not sure if they had them in black.

hmmm...
I just bought these two throw pillows and they are black and neon green. My room colors are black, grey and white. I thought I could add some green to it to accent the pillows... I will have to go look tomorrow
