I, for one, am awed by the stupidity of people when it comes to dogs. Now, I know that not everyone knows a lot about dogs, but everyone should have some basic common sense.

Rushing up to a dog you don't know and hugging it isn't very smart. It doesn't matter what breed, a Rottweiler and a Golden should be approached the same way. Both can bite.

Another thing that bugs me is at the dog park. And these are dog owners we're talking about. The people that don't recognize common doggie behavior signs, such as growling or fur on end, that warn to back off. Their dogs bug other dogs, the other dogs try to tell them to back off, but the people won't call their dog away.

Does anyone have any moments that they were awed by the stupidity of people when it comes to dogs (and/or cats)? Care to share?

Yup, I had an experince today with a woman who said she was a responsible pet owner and was very far from it! I'm making a thread now :p

Oh, definitely. I could go on and on. Sometimes people are simply uneducated or basically clueless when it comes to dogs. Others are shockingly idiotic.
If you go back through vent threads you'll see my point proven that idiocy is rampant these days.

I know exactly how you feel. I can't believe the amount of clueless people that I run into on a daily basis - it bothers me even more when those people actually have dogs of their own.

I just can't believe it either. People have the right to do anything they want with their life, but when you're responsible for another living being it's an entirely different matter.

I could do hours on it, dogs AND cats. We really need to force people to take IQ tests before they are allowed to have pets or kids.

Add to that people who are terrified of my puppy- she's a little puppy! I have seen people jump back in horror when she approaches them- on a leash! Weird. And, people who just feed your dog without even asking you. Would you feed someones child without asking?

I'm not in awe of stupid people when it comes to pets anymore.

I'm in awe of SMART people when it comes to pets.
Ok, but you have to admit that there really are still those people that make your jaw drop.. if just a little bit?

Yeah, that is true. I just expect people to be stupid when it comes to pets. I've had so many encounters with people who should just not be pet owners...

I was fostering a chihuahua puppy last year and trying to find her a forever home, and we met a woman who had another chihuahua. Anyway, the woman said that she would have "such cute puppies," and I tried to explain to her that she was an abandoned puppy... her history is unknown, she is unregistered, way out of breed standards... and the lady said "so?!"

Or how 'bout the time we were at Petsmart with the dogs, and a couple of little kids ran full force at my chis and tried to hug them. Rylie doesn't like sudden movement, and backed up. The mother told me to remove my "aggressive dogs" out of the store.

Encounters with stupid people just happen all of the time

But... a while back I was at the dogpark and a girl mentioned that she was headed out to the dog bakery to get some Innova. I was amazed.

I really am in awe of people who are good with animals.

How about an attached Pit that is dog aggressive. Instead of leaving after the dog has attacked..not once, but twice..the owners laugh. Yeah, accident waiting to happen buddie. What about the pit puppy (same group of idiots) that was being yanked around and encouraged to growl and bite other dogs. I wanted to hit everyone of them. I KNOW those dogs aren't treated properly.

oh yes, i had a moment the other day, a couple actually within 5 minutes of each other. i was down town and i was with buster. i had him tied to a pole and was beside him eating lunch. i saw this guy coming with this massive dog i don't even know what cross it was, it was old though. i grabbed busters collar because this dog was already close and i knew how he would react. the owner of this other dog saw me and went "its okay he'll be right" refering to his dog and i said "He won't!" refering to buster. i dont blame buster for how he reacted. this dog was walking past about 40cm from buster, and this dog started growling and put its bristles up, i held busters collar as he lunged and snarled and snapped at this dog doing the same thing, the owner of this other dog was unprepare and lucky he had the leash sort of have looped over his knees or he wouldn;t have got it away.i didn't relise till aftre how calm i was. i hadn;t made i noise. i hadn;t freaked buster out anymore than he already was. i just held him away from this other dog so a fight couldnt happen and only afterwards did i notice i still had my lunch in the other hand.
it wasn;t a good situation. but evn if my dog was fine with other dogs. i don;t think i would have walked it right by another dog especally if its owner grabbed its collar when it saw me coming.

only made 5 minutes later. i'm sitting there and this little kid maybe 4 or 5 runs up and just pats mac and buster on the head, from behind them. this has never happened to me before so i just sat there wide eyed and opened mouthed as this kids father just sorta called it away.

buster was so good though, he didn't flinch, he didn't freak out. he just ignored this kid completly which i am so thankful for. i'll be prepared next time.

only weeks later i saw them out the front with the puppies their bitch had just had a while back encouraging them bark and growl at passers by... some people just never learn

This guy at the dog park had an 8 month old Vizsla. She seemed to really like jumping on me. I didn't mind that much, I just ignored her until she put her feet down. But her owner was like "You can just knee her right in the chest if you want." :yikes:

The dog park thing reminds me of my last trip to the dog park. I was there with Shippo, and this family came with their German Shepherd - I believe his name was Sarge. Well, Sarge came in and immediately started chasing Shippo - in a playful manner. They were both enjoying themselves. However, Sarge's owner though Sarge was being aggressive, and was yelling and chasing him all over trying to get him to stop. I was able to get through to him that Sarge was only playing though.

Yeah, I've seen that happen before. But I prefer that to the owner that isn't even paying attention. This one guy had this obnoxious Boxer that was harassing all the smaller dogs. It trapped this lady and her little dog on the bench was barking in their faces for like 5 minutes before the guy finally went over to stop her.

What really gets me, is I somtimes take Zoey to the horse races, and when we go there are *always* little girls or boy who figure, "oh that cute puppy wont bother us, and we will ask the owner if we can pet her" Okay, they DO ask to pet her, and I do say yes(most of the time - unless shes there to work on not wanting *everybody* to pet her) so they come over ask me, I say yes, they pet her, then I say "Okay, I have got to go get her some more water/food" and they say "Okay, we will come with you!" I am not there to babysitt the kids to, just my dog :p, I am not sure why, but when your nice to one little kid, they seem to keep thikning *everytime* They see a dag and the owner says they can pet it, they think they are allowed to fallow me around *all day*

I dunno maybe I am just a grumpy meanie....

Enough people already think pig hunting is a barbaric sport, these are the types of people who certainly dont help any >_< Uf!

It always shocks and amazes me when people call me out on saying that dogsledding is cruel and nothing but a death sentence for the dogs. My jaw drops even further when they tack on that dogs are only to love and cuddle with and should never be worked.....

Personally the flexi leads thing indoors drives me nuts.
I have my dog in a heel and their are dogs leaping at his rear end snapping due to flexi leads.

And the owners think it is cute cause it is a small or medium size dog.

I know some people use they correctly I however had med more idiots using them then good people- sadly.
