You haven't gotten a call or anything? Sheessshh, we were all very nice and straight to the point. I don't think anyone sent anything rude or anything.

I really hope they have the courtesy to reply.

Edit: Or I'll regret being nice in the first place....

Didn't someone, on another thread about Charlie, get a reply??? I thought I read that earlier today?

Jess - do they know you have a yard? it seems like they just think you have a 30x30 pen and that is all. maybe dorothy isn't telling them you have a yard and making it seem like all you have is a pen???

Just sent my email.

Dear Ms Hunter,

I am aware that you have already received numerous emails on the issue of the thwarted adoption of Charlie, the catahoula mix, by Jessica. I apologize for taking up more of your valuable time but I truly feel this issue warrants the attention.

I have been a member of Chazhound Dog Forum for quite a long time and I will readily admit that I have never met Jess in person. Having said that though it is also true that after reading over the years hundreds of posts by Jess and others at Chaz as well as on other dog forums I am active on, it can also be said that you can really learn about a person and their character by reading what they post. Yes, there are those who do tend to not be themselves but they are eventually "outed". I feel I can honestly say that Jess is a remarkable woman who takes excellent care of her dog, Chloe. She is a very active dog owner who gives as much love, time and devotion as possible to make sure Chloe is happy, healthy and well trained. She was so anxious to share her home and her heart with Charlie and was heartbroken when that dream was dashed by the size of her yard (which while considerably bigger only has a 30' x 30' section fenced in). In an ideal world every dog would have at least an acre of fenced in yard as well as an amazing guardian who gives them love as well as everything else they require. However, being involved with rescue as you are, you are very aware that the plight of all the animals in rescue show the the true nature of that situation. It is sad to keep a qualified potential adopter from fulfilling her dream and bring consistency, routine, stability, love, etc. to a dog who has been in the "system" for so long.

I respectfully ask that a further investigation be made into this case. I know Charlie would be given the best life can offer him if he is allowed to be with Jess. Charlie is still at a young enough age to make the transition to a new home and I am sure under her care he will blossom to his full potential. Please give them the opportunity to spend these coming years together and share the happiness that will come to Charlie, Jessica & Chloe.

Thank you for your time,

Denise Bowen

Exactly . These dogs need loving homes, we all know you will give him an amazing home so why is it sooooo hard to adopt.

your guess is as good as mine...and its not even about me anymore really its about all the other people just like me that try to adopt, then when they are turned down, they usually go look in the newspaper or the petstores because some people truly dont know better they just know that they want to share there life with a pet

I agree Kase, she could at least give Jess the courtesy and an acknowledgement of the letters being received on her behalf.

Hmmm---perhaps Ms. Hunter is out of her office for a for few days? Are there any other contact possibilities? I'm sure it was mentioned before, but exactly what organization is this? Is it the South Carolina SPCA? If we had an address, we could also send "snail mail"--sometimes a mailed letter has more impact--its so easy to delete e-mails...

I hope we hear something soon:( I also find it frustrating how hard it is to adopt--I also know people who are very responsible who were turned down and frustrated to the point where they just went out and bought a dog--such a shame --my own rescue, my ACD, Blue, was not through an organization --it was one of those accidentally come across a skinny half bald 6 month old pup who desperately needed a home--and home with me he came---no hassles. Its a shame it can't always be that simple. Good luck Jessica, we are here to help anyway we can.

is there any way the media can be involved in this. It's really hard to ignore the media and I'm sure we'll get a response right quick then!

Forgot to mention that I emailed her agian today, checking on my inquiry. I will not stop emailing until I get a reply from her.

First, I am sorry I came to this thread so late. I don't know what made me read through it...just something about the title, I guess. Anyway, can I make a suggestion and I realize this was done very quickly to try to stave off the devil herself...but next time you want to start a campaign like this, don't mention the group you belong to, otherwise it looks like just what it is a bunch of friends trying to help out. I've done letter writing campaigns before and approached this "president" in a different way...here's my email which was titled: Article Response Request

Hi, my name is Nanci and I edit pet travel guides. I am a general all-around dog lover. I'm not going to take time from your busy schedule with any more detail than that.

However, I have received a story from a fellow dog lover about what should have been an easy adoption gone aray for no reason other than what sounds like someone's "God" complex. I know none of the individuals involved in this situation, but I will tell what has been offered to me as the facts and ask if you would like to respond before we post the story on our website:

The bare facts:

A lady named Jessica had made arrangements to adopt a dog named Charlie, a Catahoula mix, from a shelter in South Carolina. Charlie has been in foster care for nearly 1-1/2 years. Jessica was accepted with open arms by the foster family and made arragement to pick the dog up.

At that point a woman named Dorothy stepped into the adoption process and halted the adoption after determining that the prospective adoptor, Jessica, did not have a large enough fenced area.

Result: Jessica is heartbroken, the foster family is perplexed and the entire dog world is learning about a woman named Dorothy and her "God" complex.

I've worked with a number no-kill shelters, done a bit of pulbic relations work for several, and went through a somewhat similar situation when I adopted my youngest dog from a shelter (she was too small to live with a larger dog--that was 6 years ago and today they are inseperable). I understand and applaud efforts to make the perfect match with the pet going to the perfect home. I'm just wondering what this woman is thinking when she feels it is better to leave a dog in foster care when he's been there this length of time, rather than putting him in a home where he is wanted...even if it isn't perfect.

Either way, I will be posting the story (only including details of last names and shelter name). I wanted to give you an opportunity to respond on behalf of the shelter.

Thank you for your time.

I just sent this so there's been no time for a response and know that this is no idle threat...we will post the information on the website under...I don't know...maybe pets who lose to beauracracy (sp)...or something like that.

It was friends helping out....people that I have talked to everyday on here for SIX months...I do consider them friends...I dont care if they were diplomatic or not, it just meant the world to me that they even cared enough to write...

but thank you..I appreciate it :)

Ugh. Surely somebody has read the emails by now? I wish there was a way I could have tracked mine to see when it was opened.

This whole thing is infuriating.
