Have you adopted a shelter pet? Or have you rescued a stray, abandoned, or abused animal?

If you have, I would like to offer an idea to you all.

I feel that rescuers/adopters should be honored for their courage, and opening their hearts to homeless animals.

I have created a "Purple Heart" that can be put in your signature, that shows everyone you've adopted a pet.

I hope that will encourage MORE people to adopt, and save lives, and spread the word.

Would any body be intereste in that??

I adopted Lucas and Pog (roomates dog) is the dog I found roaming the streets. I also volunteer at the shelter a lot....does that count enough?

Of course! Here's the pic. It nees to be resized, but I can't figure it out. So feel free to re-size it, and send it to me! :D

I think this is an excellent idea! My two are both shelter babies, so looks like I belong in this category.

Hopefully this won't be peoples only motivation to adopt though. :D

I think that's a great idea, however I think the heart should be a different color. The Purple Heart is for military service people who were injured in the line of duty. That's the first thing I thought of when you said purple heart.

My hope is that those of us who have these hearts, will educate others, and continue to help people understand how much GOOD they really are doing by adopting, rescueing, fostering, volunteering, etc.

And you DEFINATELY belong in this catagory! Congrats!

I really like the idea of the purple heart. It symbolizes courage, bravery, and heart. Also, going out of their way to save others, and that includes animals.

I like the concept, but I have a suggestion.

Because signatures tend to get so huge and they're really awkward when they're huge (scrolling down past several inches of photos and words just to get to the next post irritates a lot of people) - how about making the heart the smaller size with a paw print in it, and then to the right of it have the caption that you currently have inside? That way it is wide but not tall and much more suited to a signature than having it be huge.

The idea of the heart is really neat though!

Good idea - the cat forum I am on has very, very strict rules for the size of sigs and for precisely the reason Melanie has stated. You'd be amazed at how creative people can get - in fact it's the prettiest site I've been on!

I rescued all my cats, but not my dogs - that counts, though, I guess?

I got my dog before he went to a shelter. The owner was having such a hard time placing him since he was big. He said that if he couldn't find him a home taking him to the shelter was going to be a last resort. I loved him from the moment i met him and told the owner I'd love to take him.
Don't know if that would count as a rescue or not.

I think the heart idea is wonderful.

I like the smaller and wider idea. Sadly I lack the skills. But if its small and wide I'd put it in my sig.

Tinker, Amos and Lola are all from nasty situations....but if you ask them, they'd probably tell you that the purple heart should go to them for their bravery...And for living with a bit of a nut who constantly talks to them in full sentances and expects answers to even the most ridiculous questions..;) :p

Great idea, I love it!:hail:

Me too... Dr2. But it's only been a problem when my students walk in and catch me, having one of these "conversations". As for myself, I help place animals for 2 local shelters and take in one per month at home kennel for evaluation, one weeks training and placement assistance, as a donation for one of these groups. Does that count?

Great idea! I want one too! But, I agree that it should be smaller with the caption to the side. Also, I think it should say "homeless pet" instead of "shelter pet".

My dog was never in a shelter. He was in foster care... :)

I Love it too.........

In fact, Although I really like your heart............
When you make it little, you can't read it.

So I made one too.........

Dulce,
You don't have to use this one......I just had some free time. ;)

What do you all think?
When you decide, then we should all just add them to our sigs.....
If we have rescued or adopted..
Uhh?
