Athena as some of you know Athena was a rescue who was born three days after her mother was seized from a dog fighting ring in Freeport IL. Her mother's name was Lucille. Lucille was a 45lb bundle of muscle and pretty good natured dog even though see had been used for the first 3 years of her life to breed puppies for fighting.
A women named Joan took her in and raised her and here pups (Athena included) and introduced me to this wonderful breed. Lucille was dominant but not aggressive towards dogs and was wonderful with women she knew but feared men.
I didn't know Lucille real well but I watched her with her puppies and she was a wonderful mother.
She lived to about 14 years old and died of congestive heart failure.
I kinda feel silly about this post but it saddens me to hear this news and thought I would give her some tribute here. I am glad Athena won't be phased by the news.
