Athena becomes neighborhood hero! You are probably thinking she stopped a burglar or chased off a child molester at the park....well no but she did something no one else could.
I was working on my house outside when a dog comes running by at top speed. Moments later three boys come chasing after her and then a mom and three little girls in a car and then a guy...every one is trying to catch this escaped dog (looked like about a 6 month old beagle/coon dog mix.) I watched this circus for a few minutes and realized they would never catch the dog (who was enjoying the game). I tried to help and almost had "Gabbie" come to me but she would come close and then run off.
I had the idea that I would bring out Athena, she is very calm and other dogs are just drawn to her for some reason. As soon as the puppy saw Athena she ran up and rolled over on her back (submitting like puppies do). Athena calmly started smelling her "privates" and I was able to catch her.
The family was sooo happy, they made a big fuss over Athena. They were very worried when they first saw the "Pit Bull" but Athena couldn't have been more gentle.
I just hope they learned their lesson and the puppy doesn't get loose again. Maybe I could get Athena a job as a dog catcher
