Pets aren't allowed in barracks, unless the army is different, but I doubt it. At least from the command I have witnessed, they would not let any single person move off base, and that does extend beyond boots.

Pets aren't allowed on barracks and you are limited to the pets you can own if you live on post. Singles can live off post/in housing if they are an E5 or higher, but it's a lot cheaper to live in the barracks anyway you look at it while single.

I understand yalls concerns, I really honestly do.

I've been wanting to join for the better part of 5 years.
Yes a lot has happened in recent months.

As far as TJ goes, its done its over with. That sounds harsh but thats how it is.
As far as Penny goes, she was a surprise for the most part. (& I know pets aren't allowed in the barracks. Like I said before, dad will be watching her)
All the other things, fall into place.

I am not rushing to talk to a recruiter, I have things I have to work out first. I probably won't talk to a recruiter for a couple of months. Which gives me time to do what I need to do and think things out. If it takes longer than a couple of months, then so be it.

Believe it or not, there are things that happen in my life that I do not broadcast on here or FB. Yall don't have the whole story, and probably never will.
Sorry to sound like a bitch, I'm not trying to, but yall asked and I gave.

Marines by virtue of their smaller size are able to distill what works & what doesn't faster. no flying warrant officers. you must be a Sgt to apply for EOD & there are no commissioned officers in Marine EOD. Marines teach leadership skills from boot camp on. IME the army waits until you are a Sgt before they start teaching leadership skills. Marines reward competance & effort w/ more work & responsibility (which generally leads to accelerated promotion). Marines don't need near as many women so they can be picky about who they take, make sure you're competitive. Marines have the best looking dress uniform.
i've been told by army guys that certain elements (like airborne) have a culture similar to the Marines.

The worst part about living in the barracks for me was not having my dogs. I had friends who's dogs I could go visit, but it killed me... I spent just about every moment of every day missing Doom and Bobsie. :(
A week after Jon and I got married, while we were still on Christmas break, we hightailed our butts down to AZ to pick up my dogs - I was one happy bride. Screw a honey moon - gimme my dogs!!! LOL

You already know my opinion on branch. I don't think either of them is going to give you much of a bonus right now, but go in knowing what you want and see what they'll give you, don't take no for an answer, and at MEPS, be prepared to walk out if they aren't offering you what you want. That was the mistake I made. I didn't know they'd be calling me the next week begging me to come back so they could get me in - and they would have been. A couple of recruits I went to MEPS with did that and got exactly what they wanted.

Don't take any bull and get EVERYTHING in writing (I haven't read the rest of the thread, but if its already been said, it could more than stand to be repeated several million times). If its not in writing, it doesn't matter.

Good luck girlie. Sorry I didn't answer the phone earlier, I was arse deep in homework and had it on silent, then Winnie woke up and life went hectic. <3

Thanks Pops!
The one thing I LOVE about the Marines is all the tradition. Seriously, I love it.

No is my favorite word ;)

I will miss the h3ll out of Penny, no doubt about it. She is my baby girl.
I know people are concerned about her, I would think yall have no marbles if yall weren't concerned. But don't think I am the only one who has left their pets to family/friends for a little while to pursue their dreams. Some go to college and leave them, others go to the military, etc etc.

I have 5-7 MOS' I want, the closer I get and the more I research, the more that'll get narrowed down.

And its okay, Annie. I know you have your hands full :)

If, for whatever reason, your dad can't keep Penny while you're unable to have her, I'm sure the fabulous people of Chaz could arrange a transport to El Paso, and then back to you when you can have her again. :) You wouldn't be the first soldier I've dog sat for - in fact when I open my rescue I really REALLY want to have a place for soldiers to leave their pets where they'll be safe during deployment and can come back to happy, healthy animals. :)
I know when I was having trouble figuring out what to do with Doom and Bobsie during deployment the thread here made me cry with all the wonderful people bending over backward to do what they could, anything they could for us. <3 That's why I love Chaz.
