Okay, to make a long complicated story short....things have not been going well for me lately, culminating in an ambulance ride last Friday to emerg and now a relatively serious surgery at the end of March. (Andrew has been a HERO through all this too, I might add!)

Sooooo, b/c of the long recovery time, and some serious burnout, I am closing my home daycare. Sure, it kind of left parents in the lurch since I had to give notice....but I gave notice AS SOON as I knew about what was going on, and (much to Andrew's anger) I took a later surgery date to allow dcparents some time to find someone new.

I have apologized to them, told them the situation etc, and yet EVERY FREAKING TIME I speak to them, some parents have to bring up how HARD this has been for them! Excuse me, I have to have major, life changing, unexpected surgery in the near future; I am quitting my job which is financially difficult; my family is being affected too.....I am SO SORRY that you need to find another dcp! Okay, I get that this is hard on the kids (I love the little critters, I will miss them!), I get that this is difficult....but sheesh!

It's going to be a hard couple of weeks facing these people every morning :(

And the wierdest thing about it all is that the dcmom I THOUGHT would be the most difficult about all this is being the nicest! Go figure, eh?

Okay, rant over LOL>

Lorri, I am sorry to hear of your upcoming surgery & I want to wish you well - you will be in my thoughts & prayers.

It's tough that the dcmoms seem to be making the situation difficult for you. Turn it around and look at it a different way - how they probably feel deep down - not only are they are really worried not only about you and your upcoming surgery but they are also worried about finding another person who will be as wonderful & trustworthy with their children as you are. It is actually a huge compliment to you that you will not easily be replaced in their eyes when it comes to their children.

I agree...they aren't saying it well, but they are so upset to leave YOU because they know and trust you. I bet if they realized how it sounded, they'd be so ashamed. I also will say prayers and send all good wishes for you to have a quick recovery!! guess you can always hang out here and we'll cheer you up. I'm so sad that you have to have surgery. just concentrate on getting better, and don't worry about the parents. (((HUGS)))

I'm sorry lorri. I guess you could think of it as their way of letting you know how great you are... Just trying to be positive. I wish you could just close the doors and take some time to relax. Thinking of you.

Wow, that sucks. I send you many many wishes for a painless (as possible) and quick recovery!!

And ditto to what others have said about the dcmoms. When you find someone you like it's nigh impossible to replace them easily and the kids don't make the transition any smoother.

I hope everything will be okay and I wish you a quick recovery as well.

It must be so hard to talk to the dcmoms and have THEM whine in your face. But sadly, that's what people do best. Take it as a compliment and mention that you are not giving the dc up by choice...maybe they'll get the hint and will be more supportive!

Best wishes to you!

Thanks all for the different perspective :) It is hard right now--I have just been digesting all this life changing stuff since Tuesday when I saw the dr, and it's hard to hear from others about how difficult things are for them! But I will try to spin it so that it means they really love me :D

I might just be driving you guys crazy on here while I recuperate! Lord knows, Andrew won't be able to log on since he will be soooooo busy slaving away while I recline in bed :D

Lorrie....so sorry to hear that you have to have surgery. That's a bummer!!!

The parent's will just have to deal with it....it's hard though when you find someone that you and your kids really like. It's hard to re-place a good daycare provider.

Good luck to you. It'll be nice though for us to have you on here more. :D

Ah, well, Lorri - it can't be ALL bad if we get to have you around more ;)

I think you've gotten some great advice about handling the loads the dcmoms are dumping on your shoulders. Now is the time for you to be focused on your health and emotional well-being - not anyone else's. Andrew will take care of you and the kids. From what I've seen of Andrew, he's absolutely a ROCK.

Keep us posted, and whatever we can do, whether it's just listening to you rant or making you laugh, we'll do for you. You're family (((HUGS)))
