I live in a crate/rotate situation with Bloo and the cats.

I'm terrible about picking up dog poop.

I encourage my dogs to alarm bark.

Copper is batshit and we think it's hysterical.

I have an intact male
My yard is not fenced
He is regularly out there without a leash
I don't "do" anything with him. We just snuggle & take pictures.

-I don't vaccinate
-They go off leash where it's "illegal"
-....And, Juno at least, does not have a perfect recall
-I don't bring them to the vet unless I can't solve it on my own. And even then, I don't usually do what the vet tells me to.
-I feed raw stuffs
-I leave them loose together unsupervised/in the past have crated them together
-I don't "do" stuff with them every day
-I play favorites. MAJORLY. Take a lucky guess which one is the favorite.

Zoe is DA. She will go after other dogs if given the chance. Mostly it's show, and she is also happy to get away from confrontations with random loose dogs, but I know she'd engage in a serious battle if she felt it was warranted.

I manage it, I keep her under control and am extremely selective about where we go. Thus, she DOESN'T go after other dogs, but to some, just the fact of her DA would be enough to have her PTS. I am so glad it was me who ended up with this dog.

In short, 11 years with 85lbs of powerful DR/DA dog has taught me all sorts of lessons in responsibility. There are people who I am sure would say owning a DA dog is irresponsible, yet I'd say I am more responsible than most people with super dog-friendly dogs, simply because I know the importance of control and limits when out and about.

But yeah, I am a terrible person, because if you let your dog run up to mine, she may eat it.

I leave my dog tied up outside in nice weather. But, I'm usually out with her and if I'm not, there's huge windows along that side of the house so she's never out of my sight. She's on a 50ft (usually shortened to 30ft when we aren't playing so she can't get tangled up in the trees) rope. She always has a gallon tank of water in this nifty bowl from farm and fleet.

My yard is not fully fenced. Hence why my dog is always tied up when outside.

Roxie gets put on a cable for potty. I don't go out with her, just watch at the door.

Roxie is only vaccinated for rabies. And she only gets hwt/flea stuff spring-early winter. But the second we stop going for walks, I stop giving it. Shes always hwt tested before I start up again though (as required by the co i get the meds from) and has never come up with anything.

Outdoor exercise in winter? Doesn't happen. Roxie doesn't get walked in winter. She will come to indoor pet-friendly places though. And we do a lot of indoor stuff.

I have never taken a dog training class. This usually shocks the socks off of people because "she's so well trained, she could be a service dog! Are you sure she's not?". A lot of people ask me if she's a service dog, lol. I do my own stunts.

Roxie doesn't have any doggy friends. I don't care if she likes other dogs. She does get on well with calm dogs, but if your dog is off leash and runs up to us, she can defend herself. I let her, because I give a respectful distance off of paths and you should have called your dog back. Besides, all she does is keep her mouth open and paw at other dogs if they don't take the hint. And she's always leashed.

I use a prong when needed.

I also use a canny collar when needed.

I encourage Roxie to pull in a harness.

Roxie wears a 1.5 inch collar. Not for cruel purposes either, but because I am not a fan of thinner collars anymore.

I encourage prey drive when acceptable... And so far, Roxie's not turned vicious because of that.

Hm... What else... I don't love Roxie via food.

Some people think the amount of exercise that Roxie and I get is "insane for a pet". Whelp, she is my shadow. If the weathers good, we're out there finding nature and having fun. We bike, we hike, and I am hoping to add backpacking to the list... As well as getting some new rollerblades and see if Rox won't pull me a bit.

Oh, and to the hiking portion of that- if there is a park bench, picnic table, or large rock, Roxie is on it, over it, or posing for a picture. Large branches in our way or fallen trees? She can jump it or climb it and still look cute.

And... I think that's it for the things that people have told me I am insane/irresponsible for "doing to that poor dog/making that poor dog do".

My female dog is over the magical age of six months old, and she's still intact
I let her offleash where I'm not supposed to
I don't take her to the vet unless something's really wrong (ie get over your snufflycold thing on your own)
She has no set meal schedule (and she works for her food, gaspeth)
At 7 1/2 months old I've started letting her catch a disc out of the air (low throws)
She wears a head collar
I tie her outside of places
She rides on my lap in the car
She's probably spent half her life crated in the car
I let her jump on me! Not others though, so not too bad.

1.) I'm single and work full time, so the dogs are home alone 9+ hours a day, 5 days a week
2.) I leave them alone loose, unsupervised, with the cat
3.) I use a doggy door and don't ever use a crate
4.) I'm bad about picking up dog logs unless I'm out walking them
5.) I rarely walk them
6.) My dogs are loose in the car, and left in the car when I go shopping (only in appropriate weather)
7.) Alert barking is a GOOD thing to me. I will quiet them if they bark more than 3 or 4 times though. (My ex inlaws had a car stolen from their driveway because they trained alert barking out of their dog)
8.) I'm terrible with nail trimming, mostly because the girls are a pain when I try to do it
9.) I've never brushed their teeth, though they both have incredible teeth
10.) I feed kibble
11.) My dogs are allowed on all furniture... I really just don't care if they get on the couch or not.
12.) Both dogs are allowed in the bed, though only one dog cuddles
13.) I don't have any specific activities with the girls... we just cuddle and hang out and I like to take them to dog-friendly places (like hardware stores, farmers markets, etc).

BUT there is nothing I wouldn't do for my dogs. I feed the highest quality kibble i can afford. I give them supplements that have been researched extensively (I'm anal). My pit can be DA with unfamiliar dogs, so I don't put her in unfair situations and I socialize her in other ways. My other dog is neurotic so I make sure she gets extra attention and outings. My dogs have never been rehomed, even through a divorce, a bankruptcy, and losing a home. I rent a 3 bedroom house with a large yard JUST because of the dogs... All I need is a small apartment, but I want them to have a yard to run around in.

So I'm not an ideal owner. But my dogs are loved and happy. They get to go on trips and they are my priority in life. So, haters gonna hate, but I'm a good owner.

I've been setting up a jump or two since the snow melted. And playing with Fiona over it. Because goddamnit she jumps around way higher than that on her own, everyday. :p

-Bean is still intact and I have no intention of neutering him
-I leave my pit bull home loose and unsupervised with other dogs
-I own more than the legal number of dogs (although I have a letter stating my need for a service dog, so technically Steve doesn't count)
-I hike my dogs off-leash
-I don't have a fenced yard
-I rarely use flea/tick preventative because it's gross

It really depends on who you're talking to and what people consider irresponsible, etc.

I mean, this forum I am probably one of the 'safer' ones? But on... my yorkie forum, for example, I am certainly one of THE most laid back ones lol. And then in real life, you have the people who do everything by the book and "ALLBREEDERSAREBAD!1!!1!" but then I also have the country folk near my dads house whose dogs roam free, are not fixed, and impregnate the neighborhood dogs.

- I don't plan to vaccinate for the rest of his life (minus rabies every 3 years as per the law).. but I feel like on forums this has become more of the 'norm' now

- I do leave him in the car for short periods of time if weather permits. But I won't like... go into a mall or anything. I'm talking quick take out food, drug stores, gas stations, etc.

- He's let out in the fenced in yard by himself at night (granted, no longer than 3-5 mins, and the yard is lit up by some motion lights, but most yorkie owners would NEVER do this in a million years)

- He's allowed to jump on/off anything he wants to (again, a lot of yorkie owners would have a heart attack if they saw him jumping around and the way he moves)

- I hate picking up dog poop when there is NO close by trash cans on trails. I'm not going to carry a bag of his sh*t around for an hour hike. So sometimes I'll just cover it with leaves and be on my way. If I'm in a neighborhood, or camp ground, etc, of course I pick up.

- He is allowed on any piece of furniture and can jump on/off whenever he wants

- He begs for food. And most of the time I think it's funny.

- He's left loose in the house, either by himself, or at my dads house with his 2 dogs

- I feed kibble. And right now it's Purina One Beyond *gasps*. He's also chewing on a Purina dental chew right now. I actually am planning to feed Farmina, waiting on it to be available, and for now finding a food at the grocery store was the easiest. But it's not like I chose the food willy-nilly, I actually have a reason to trust Purina more/if not just as much as some of the past holistic foods I used to feed. I've done bagillion of hours of research online regarding dog food and nutrition.

- I will continue to spay/neuter my future pets at the proper age. Depending on who you talk to, that's going to be looked down upon OR look good lol.

I mean, again, it's all relative. Feeding raw is pretty much looked down upon with most yorkie owners (and I personally don't like it either) but all other forums for a while it seemed to be the 'superior'. And while most people I meet at the dog park are the type to follow what their vet says in regards to vaccine guidelines, listen to their pet store salesman as to what food is best, attend puppy training classes, and spay/neuter is ALWAYS best.... you've also got the people who don't really ever pay attention to their dogs, let them roam free, don't fix them, nor train them or give a crap about what they're eating.

But Jackson lives a **** good life. He's spoiled, he's given ample exercise, he goes on family vacations, daily errands with me, visits new parks/trails/etc, visits family & friends houses with me, sleeps in my bed every night, gets good food, good vet care, gets his teeth brushed every night, gets the best toys, chews. I pay attention to his health, his condition, I constantly train him, etc etc etc. He's literally my best little friend.

I've become more lax I think through the years because I realize there are so many dogs living in horrible conditions, horrible sickly lives, often abused, so I really shouldn't fret about the dogs that are at least allowed in a warm home, given food whatever it may be, and a yard to go in. And even though that's not the type of dog ownership I necessarily think is the BEST for the dog... it's better than a lot.

We're going to start on jumping as soon as I make the jumps, which is as soon as I get the $$, which is soon. Very, very low and probably not often because that's how I roll. But Silvia Trkman told me to LOL. I think it makes sense to start them young and let them start figuring out how to move their bodies to jump correctly.

Lol I love the differences on here. I see there's a lot of "kibble fed" on these lists, and yet I feel like I'm naughty for feeding raw from time to time.

So subjective!

Right? I feel like I should have put "my dogs are altered" on my list. :p
I actually edited it to add it haha! Sometimes I feel guilty for knowing I'm always going to S/N my pets. I would never do it too young, but yeah.... it's just my preference.

I don't really know what this list turned into, but I'm just following what others have said, I think?

My dogs are all altered.
2 are from breeders.
1 is from rescue.
I feed kibble, canned, and raw. Sometimes all in the same meal!
I use Gentle Leaders as needed.
I use a Flexi daily.
One of my dogs takes b-mod drugs and lives with my mom.
I'm not afraid to board my dogs at a place I trust, or leave them with people I trust.
I am anal retentive about car safety for all involved.
My dogs don't get on furniture when people are around, without being asked up.
I leave Gabby and Buzz loose with my cats because the chance of anyone being injured is about 0.01%.

- I have a very obvious favourite and I can't help it. But of course I love all four... it's just different.
- Said favourite dog has furniture and bed privileges while the others do not typically (sometimes though... and that too is "bad" because it's inconsistent, but my dogs seem to understand).
- Two of my dogs eat raw, because both deteriorate a little on kibble.
- Two of my dogs eat kibble, because they deteriorate a little on raw.
- I switch my kibble dogs' food constantly. I like feeding them different brands, and currently they are eating a more middle of the road food and doing super well, vs my usual very high end foods.
- My raw dogs eat mainly ground raw. And they typically get three different proteins because it is hard to find more for affordable prices.
- I loathe leashed walks and rarely walk them on leash. I let them off leash in my favourite park that is not an off leash park, but I make sure there is absolutely nobody around and they are not at all causing trouble. I don't have a vehicle to drive to an actual off leash park, and even if I did, I hate most off leash parks. And when I do go on leashed walks, sometimes I will use a flexi, but I know how to use it and am not a danger to society like some lol.
- I don't care if my dogs want to pitch a fit over something like nails. I try to make it a good experience, but if that doesn't work, then they have to suck it up cause its important and will be done anyway. Only one of my dogs is great for nails, one is ok, and two are ridiculous despite positive reinforcement for the past 5 and 7 years.
- Unfortunately there are days that my dogs are home alone for ten hours. Not ideal, but I live pretty much alone now and I work far away, so it is what it is and they survive. Thankfully it isn't every day.
- I expect my dogs to be quiet and well mannered whether at home or in public.
I do not like chaos or disorder, so while I do let them be dogs of course, I need them to not be completely obnoxious unless the situation warrants it. Some people think I should let them be wilder, but mostly people compliment them.
- I love responsibly bred dogs from great breeders and have no desire to seek out a rescue to own anytime in the near future, although I would like to foster.
- I leave my dogs loose together with high value chews. There has never even been a hint of a problem, so IMO there is no point acting like it's inevitable when I do not believe it is. In fact, they purposely lay in close proximity to chew and/or eat even if I put them in separate spots.
- I leave my dogs in the yard in nice weather to bask in the sun and play alone. I check on them, but really, I don't see anything to worry about. The gate is locked, they all get along and I check on them regularly. And I am on them in a split second if there is any barking. My dogs will not be the dogs that neighbors hate.
- I do not heavily vaccinate. I am uncomfortable with no vaccines at all, so do parvo/distemper as puppies, but otherwise nothing.
- I do not run to the vet for every little thing, just as I do not go to my doctor for every little thing. If something persists, then I go, or if something is seriously wrong.
- Three of my dogs are altered. I don't care to live with intact dogs long term, but do keep them intact for a good length of time. Not sure when Journ will be spayed... I kind of don't want to simply to avoid spay coat. Dance's is horrible and totally ruined.

There is probably more that some would think are wrong, but we are all different as dog owners. I adore my dogs and do as much with them as possible, and do not feel like a bad owner at all except when I feel guilty for doing something with one dog and not another, but that doesn't make someone a bad owner. And i do not like leaving them for work on my couple of extra long days, but the rest of the week balances out those days. I think I am a fantastic dog owner over all, just as everyone else on the forum likely is as well.

Oh, thought I'd add:

- The dogs ride loose in the back of the car.
- They have also ridden loose in the back of a pickup truck, although I am not very comfortable with it as Abrams is an idiot and he will likely NOT be doing it again now that he is capable of actually jumping/falling off the side due to his size.
- I purchased Abrams from a breeder. One whose primary goal is a well adjusted companion, be it for sport, show, or hunting...not a primary goal of a "hard core" working dog.

Forgot to add, I'm really bad at cutting Jackson's nails. I typically don't attempt it, as I'm too worried about hurting him and breaking his trust in me touching his feet (he's already not a fan of being touched/carried/etc lol). So a lot of times nails only get cut when he sees the groomer every 8 weeks or so.

So much agree. I've always thought that teaching them how to move, especially how to land and jump, young is important. Be smart and don't be repetitive but come on, it seems to make more sense to let them learn how to use their bodies rather than be like "Welp! You're two, time to go A'Leaping!"

-I took Paris on a plane (some people were all, OMG THAT'S SO MEAN).
-My dogs get kibble, and I have switched Seamus' brand suddenly with no transition before.
-I am setting Paris' ears which apparently makes me mean.
-Seamus is neutered/Paris will stay intact. Not sure which one I should be apologising for? :rofl1:
-Seamus goes off-leash where it's not allowed.
-I leave Seamus and my mother's Chihuahua/Yorkie alone together with free run of the house.
-I am guilty of slipping Seamus food from the table.
