Anyone know much about computers and files?

One of my professors emailed me something as an attachment, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to open it. It just lists the attachment as "application/octet-stream" and I can't open it in any programs. It's just a response to an assignment I turned in, so I'd imagine it should just be a Word document... but yeah. It'd be beneficial to be able to read it. Any clue how I'm supposed to open it?

My friend got emailed the same attachment and can't open it either, so I at least know it's not just my computer.

Personally, before I started knocking myself out to view it, or installing extra junk to my computer for it, I would email the teacher back and let them know.

Perhaps they can send it in a more suitable attachment.
