My poodle was given an eardrop called mometamax. A vet tech told me that it was a combo of a steroid for inflamation, an anti-fungal ingredient, and an anti-bacterial ingredient. She has a problem with itching around her mouth area and I have switched over to raw feeding to see if it was food allergies. She has done wonderfully on raw and I will keep her on it for many reasons (teeth are cleaner, breath smells much better, less poop, poop less stinky, not leaving little puddles of urine everywhere, just overall healthier ) but she still has this red, scaley, itchy area around her mouth. I read up on mometamax and it is used for skin irritations as well as ear problems so I was thinking about using a little on the itchy area and see what happens. My worry is her ingesting some of it. The chemicals in it are gentamicin sulfate, mometasone furoate, and clotrimazole. Is anyone familiar with this medicine? Thanks!

Are you using plastic or ceramic food or water dishes? If so, switch to glass or stainless steel and see if that helps.

As for the eardrops, I'd look at the package insert (if you don't have it, look up the manufacturer's website) and talk to the vet before using it in a location where it might be ingested.
