I have a 55gall tank and a pleco but It is still growing lots of algea..
He will suck but it still wont come off. I know some types of algea is good and some arent. Its green but like very hard to scrape off the glass..
I have one of them squeegee (sp? lol) things and a toothbrush and that still wont take it off..
Only my fingernail will scratch it off but I dont want my hands in the tank b/c I dont want to contaminate it.....
Any suggestions on what this is and how to get rid of it?

Wouldn't a brillo pad scratch the glass?

Maybe you need another pleco? One may not be enough to chow down on it all.

They make a fizzy drop-in that is supposed to take care of hard to get algae. Don't know what it would do to your Pleco, though. Might want to talk to someone at an aquarium shop (not Petco, I mean a small shop owned by an old guy and his wife).

your pleco should take care of it..what kind do you have? I kept my tank in semi sun because i had koi and it made them more colorful. Also grew algae like crazy. My pleco would get so big i would trade him in for another. Whatever you do..don't get snails.:yikes: I would try another pleco. Maybe you have a smaller species and need two.

I have a 55 gallon and only have one pleko and he does the job. I have one bottom feeder who does his job. I get some algae build up on occasion but it always just rubs right off when I run that magnetized gadget across it. Every once in a while I might have to do a real tank cleaning an get in there with a cloth and scrub the walls of the tank and do a water change.. but not very often. Is your tank near a window or a lot of sunlight??
