Well.. for as long as I can remember I've always been a 'live and let live' kind of person. No matter what the creature.. even bugs. I know most people think I'm mad.. but I can never kill any bugs. The way I see it they have just as much right to be here as I do, and who am I to say they're the ones that have to go.. other than the fact that I'm bigger and can eliminate them.. :p

Anyway, I can't even kill a mosquito.. even if it's biting me.. I just shoo it away, knowing it'll just come back later and fill its belly. Yesterday I swatted and killed one and I felt bad for hours after. It is a bit extreme I know.. but I just can't help it.

Last year we had a big ant problem. I had sugar gliders at the time and the ants kept coming in to feast on the fruit the gliders were being fed. I couldn't stand the thought of using poison or traps on them.. they were just going about their daily lives.. taking care of the colony.. so in hopes of leading them back outside I put a bowl of honey in the bathroom that was right next to the room with the fruit. Sure enough they started travelling to the honey instead of the fruit! But I had cats and a dog as well so I couldn't leave the honey out in the bathroom like that.. SO I put the bowl of honey in a little hamster cage so the ants could still eat and the cats and dog couldn't get at it. So here I was.. with a cage of ants.. :p

I started slowly moving the cage towards the window in the living room.. the ants moving along with it. Eventually I got it to the window and then started putting honey outside the window.. then further and further from the house. And VOILA!! No more ant problem!

So what's the point of this story other than to prove that, yes indeedy, I am mad? ;) I was just wondering if anyone else feels this way about insects.. even a little? Please.. it's not JUST me is it??

I am very similar to you in regards to living things. But I do draw the line at ants, mosquitos, flies and stinging flying bugs if they're coming after me. But I would never kill anything else unless absolutely necessary.

I saw funny home videos and they showed a clip where this lizard was on a windshield as the person was driving holding on for dear life. I was so distraught thinking the guy was gonna turn on his wipers... thankfully he didn't. But the poor lizard held on as long as he could until the wind just sent him sailing off the moving vehicle... I would have pulled over and rescued the poor little thing.

I was always the kid who would cry when my classmates would pull the wings off butterflies, or squish lightning bugs just to see their innerds glow. I never could understand the reason behind killing things just for the heck of it.

But if I got ants in my house, or any kind of problem like that... I'm sorry... they're gone. But I really do my best not to harm ANY living thing if I can help it.

HeeHee.. well I always say it's better to know than to not know.. but then again.. I am a bit batty! :p But so what! I like bats too! :D

I totally understand this.. and sometimes I do wish I was like that.. I even tried, hence the killing of the mosquito.. but I keep being filled with guilt.. so I've given in.. I have become a haven for the crawlies! ;)

Inside: If they're trying to make a meal out of me or my food, they must die....or at least be terminally wounded.

Outside: Wasps making nests in/around where the kids play will be 1) photogrpahed and then 2) sprayed with toxic chemicals. The mosquito or any other critter which is attempting to feed off me must die - but that's about it.

Ants (These guys get their own special consideration): Any ant colonie which can run into contact with me, my house, my family or my pets will meet with any number of nasty suprises. True, they're resiliant little things - but because they're almost as bad as stinging insects, they generally don't last too long.

I usually let bugs live. You know, follow through the circle of life.

Something funny though, if it flies, Rob runs like a girl from it, no matter what it is. Talk about hilarious! Seeing a 26 year old running LIKE A GIRL from a fly.

Bahahah! My fiance Steve is the same way! I always say, "Just stand there and let em finish checking you out.. they won't hurt you if you're not a threat."
He's usually 50 feet away by the time I get to the word 'stand' :p

I rarely kill bugs, because I am too scared to get that close to them! I have a serious and irrational fear of bugs. I know my boyfriend doesn't feel good about killing them. Sometimes he takes them outside, other times he kills them. I don't feel good about their death either. I especially don't like to spray them with chemicals, because they really suffer for a long time. At least if they are squashed, it's over quickly.

I take spiders outside and release them if they're some place in the way inside the house. If they aren't in the way, I usually let them be natural pest control . . . I really don't like killing things, but will swat a bloodthirsty mosquito or annihilate a tick off of the dogs.

I don't bother spiders, just rehome to the outside world, that goes for a wasp or bee if it makes it inside as well. OUtside bugs can live just fine i don't care, i use soapy water for pest control on my garden..tastes bad, eat something else..but if it is a blood sucker i will kill it in less then a heart beat, and if it is a cockroach anywhere on the planet ( i do not have them) it better run away from me.

Same here Kase!

Rob, he'll be talking, right? All of a sudden you hear him say (for example)

"Hi, my name is OH *bleep* There is a *bleep* bee!"

Not a bug person - I'll leave most bugs alone that are outside with the exception of ticks, horseflies, deerflies and green-headed flies.
I'll be real glad when horsefly season is over, although the barncats will miss watching the 'horsefly dance' (usually involves twirling in place with waving arms and yelling all sorts of unkind things).

In the summer when our pool is open I'm always getting drowing bugs out of it. If I see it floundering in the pool, I fish it out and put it in the grass. However, if it sucks blood IT WILL DIE!!

BTW Squidbert I love your avatar "My yarny can kick your bally's ass" ROTFL :D
