Dr. Becker said "take it off, she doesnt' need it", He said she has had it on longer than he has his patients wear it for this injury and that is causing her harm at this point . He said, keep her leashed, that she would limp for a day or two because she hasnt' used it for 3 weeks but it looks great, the tendon feels good. I said what about jumping up and off the furniture and he said she would be fine with that. And there was no office fee. And no one insinuated I shouldn't have shown up wtihout an appt.

SO great news, her poor little elbow and inside of her leg is free at last.

I was thinking all those field trials and training sessions, and hunters day in and day out coming and going, I dont' remember one dog ever having soemthing like this, nor a broken leg. Charlie had 80 stitches from a 3 prong fishing hook that got in his leg and he kept swimming, but in all those dogs, over all these years I have not had to deal with something like this. A broken foot on a puppy when my daughter opened the door and his foot was under it, and Victor's carpal ordeal where Mr. Shaffer pushed him off the steps, but never a cut like this. I never want to see one like that again. Maybe our kennel was just lucky. I know I am anal about picking up broken glass in creeks and woods and anywhere a dog might walk because I had heard it cut cut off a toe, but I was not prepared to see a cut like that. So good, done and time to put it behind us.

Remove Bandage Adhesive from Dog's Fur

Okay I am almost crying.

This is dreadful. Has been days since your first post.
No doubt the tape is still an issue.
So not use acetone, even though it will do the job described.
Unfortunately most all medical tape adhesive is an alcohol base.

This is tricky. That bandage tape is nasty.

First thought is vegetable oil but may not do the trick.
I would first try a damp warm cloth that you can pinch the parts of the hair with, inside the cloth and try to looses it that way. Perhaps have a fine tooth comb handy and try to gently work it out once you have it softened up with a warm damp cloth. Just do small little parts at a time. Work on one little piece of tape glue at a time.
Warm compress should work.

Second I would try butter. Straight butter. I use this on my dog when she gets pitch from trees in her hair. Works great. Is there a difference between (Yorkie) hair and dog fur? Not sure but worth a try..

Have you ever seen Tropiclean dog shampoo? Maybe try that, straight.
It is all natural. Use only a tiny bit per section you're working on.. Apply same as like warm cloth. Tiny pieces at a time and little shampoo. may help un-glue the tape glue from the hair but not 110% sure.

I have heard conditioner works and Tropiclean is a 2-in-1 so should do the trick. Just try not to get near wound. Wipe clean with warm damp clean cloth.

What about just removing the hair and tape all in one go? Using scissors?
Maybe a reputable groomer would have the perfect solution. Just call them. No point in moving the dog.

Here is a link that calls for warm water and ... salt. I'd be careful with this. Can work if you keep wound protected from whatever you decide to use.

Here is another link that talks of tea tree oil but I wouldn't recommend that at all. As bad as acetone if it got near wound. They also mention baby oil but also mayonnaise..

No matter what you use besides just warm water and a pair of scissors, be sure to try and clean up good so the dog doesn't lick residue afterwards.

Please keep us posted. All the best!
