Australian Cattle Dogs are very rare were I live. I am lucky to have one, they are really great dogs, if they are right for you. They are one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs.

My Charlie is a 1year old blue merle ACD.

Does any one else own an ACD?

They're beautiful dogs. Here where I live, they're actually very common. But then again, we are in the heart of sheep/cattle ranching country. They call them blue heelers over here.

They are common and over bred here. The one that was at the barn I boarded my horse at was a nutt! I lvoed her and she was great to me but everytime my mom came out she went after her. I have seen a lot around here that become biters or just end up in the pound because they are to hyper,or smart :) for their owners.

These dogs should not be aggressive. I live in queensland, the heart of "heeler" country. I think every second dog I see is a cattle dog, and I've had about a billion of them. Great family dogs, and fantastic for training.

they are great dogs - im in Sydney and there are a lot about my way
very smart dogs and very aggresive
They are dominant over other animals, and wary of strangers, but they should never be aggressive. It's true that some will nip at your heels if your running, but usually only the working ACDs do that, a none working family dog won't have as much of a herding drive in him. Charlie used to when he was a puppy, but he was corrected easily, they learn fast, he has never nipped at anyones heels since he was a pup. ACDs are really great dogs if they are trained properly. You couldn't ask for a better friend! (If it's the right breed for you of course!) ;)

Zoom owns one named Sawyer, I think. Might be wrong. But there is for sure a user who has a dog named Sawyer.
Sawyer is an Australian Shepherd. They are very beautiful dogs! Another favorite breed of mine. Many people do mistake an ACD for an AS, and an AS for an ACD lol. But there are many differences such as; AS's have long hair, a bob-tail, and floppy ears, ACDs have short hair, Busy tail, and Pricked ears. Australian Shepherds are also a little bigger, and come in many different colors.

My aunts friend has a nutty Australian Shepherd, it's a very pretty dog, but it has a bad habit of peeing on people's legs lol, it's very excitable.

And my cousin has a dog that is a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix.

Well, yes and no. Dominance is not really the word to be used here, as it infers that the dog is actually plotting to gain the upper in the social heirachy. I would desribe it as an awareness of other animals, which of course stems from the dogs extensive use as a shepherd. Also, the nipping is not aggression, some people misconstrue it as such. Cattles can be wary of strangers, but I tend to only see this wariness in farm raised dogs. Urban ones can be almost lab like in their love of people!
