I once saw a lady who had her two kids on leashes and her Golden off leash walking obediently by her side. Funniest thing ever!!! Made me laugh out loud!!
LMAO!!!

This really hits a sore spot with me. I understand that I have a dog that is bigger than alot of humans and that you don't get to see that everyday. I have absolutley no problem when we are approached properly and are asked before my 3 are pet and loved on.... With that said, we hardly ever have people ask first adults and children alike! My husband says that sometimes I can be a bit b!t#chy when this happens, but I don't care. I know that my dogs will behave well when they are approached by people, but we like to be good examples of responsible dog owners---and allowing my dogs to be rushed is not responsible IMO. If it is an adult, we don't stop we keep on moving while I tell them that they should always ask first. With children we do stop...but I always loudly say 'Your parents should have taught you that you should always ask before you pet a dog.' Sometimes the parents will become embarrassed and pull their children away when I say this, but if they don't this usually calms the child enough that I can teach them how to properly meet a dog.

Now the other thing that gets me going are the idiotic parents who will ask if their kids can ride my Saint!!! I reply, 'You ride ponies-not dogs'. I

I dont have much of a problem here. But I know what you mean. Most people here see Dobermans as nasty killers and generally haul their kids away from them. But the ones who do pet her usually ask first.

Dog shows are HORIBLE beleive it or not. You have no idea how many kids practicly maul her to death.

Wow I must live in fairyland compared to everyone posting here. I have 3 border collies and 1 aussie. Whether walking 1 or all 4 I never have problems with children or adults. Even when attending large gatherings such as participating in agility demos as part of a larger function or going to a college in a country fair type atmosphere. Very rarely do I have unattended children running up to squeeze on my dogs, parents for the most part have control over thier children. At home which is sadly no longer the best of neighborhoods, teens and kids know not to screw with me or the dogs. They know I dont take jack from anyone. If I am training in the field the kids know that I will NOT tolerate any interference during that time, but when we are done they can throw the frisbee them. We have no dogparks thank god to worry about. When the movie BABE came out when I would take the pups places all I heard was kids wanting to pet "Fly' and "Rex" and still kids and parents asked for the most part to approach and pet.
I agree...I hardly ever have had people just come up and try to pet my two. Chloe always is barking and growling before people even get to her. They always ask "is she friendly" or " may I pet her". Chloe is just very talkative.

Maybe bratty kids should be put on leashes :D just kiddin'

My brother and his wife have a yorki-poo who is about 8 pounds of CUTENESS. People actually try to pick her up without asking, if you can believe that!
Oh I can believe that people try that with Teddy all the time like WTH some nerve.

I get the evil eye from parents when I tell kids that they can't pet one of my dogs. I have one who LOVES kids, one is ok with them when they are calm and one that doesn't do well with kids at all. I had one lady ask why I had my dog in public if he wasn't good with kids, and that she expected my dog would be good with kids because I had him in public. I replied that had her kid (who was running wild like a crazy banshee) had been leashed like my dog there wouldn't have been an issue.

That could have been us! Lol! My mom used to walk my brother and I on leashes, but the dog was well enough behaved he could be off leash.

Around here, people cross the street and walk on the other side when they see a dog coming. Not sure what is it, but even yorkies inspire fear, or avoidance or something in people. The only time I ran into a child walking Tengu was a little 3 year old walking with her grandma, and the grandma picked her up and carried her past us. I kind of felt bad because the girl looked heavy, and Tengu likes children, but I am glad the grandma was concerned for her safety.
