Misha's been moping around the past couple of days, despite some lovely long walks along the beach. Then last night she came up stairs with a bloody mess on her cheek. Another abscess in the same place that she had one in June. Last time the vet said it was her tooth, this time they think it is a grass seed. I'm not sure I understand how or why they are happening..... She's on antibiotics and had loads of stuff syringed into it. She's just lying around, moaning slightly, I miss my cheeky pup! :(

My brothers dog had a reacurring abcess on his snout. With many series of antibiotics it kept coming back. The cause was thought to be a tooth. They eventually had the tooth pulled and the problem is gone.
The tooth didn't even look decayed, but there was a chipped piece.

I would check into the tooth that caused it before. (unless they pulled it that time), :)

Thanks guys, she's gone off to bed with her dad, all she wants to do is sleep! Julie, thanks for the advice, I'm wondering more about the tooth now as it seems strange it is back again. The vet mentioned that there was no sign of decay but it could be a chip like your brother's dog, I'll ask her to take another look. Although she is a lovely woman she does seem to blame everything on grass!!

My dog had a swelling below his eye a few years ago. I thought it was a bee sting as it went away in just a few days. Then it came back, and again went away. I took him in to have his teeth checked. One of his teeth was abscessing, which was the swelling I'd see, and then drain into his mouth which is why it would go away. He had to be sedated, and the tooth pulled. It solved the problem.

Same thing happened to my Lhasa years ago. The Vet didn't even bother to check him out thoroughly and sent me home with eye drops! (the abscess was below his eye). After two weeks of no improvement, I called another Vet who diagnosed his problem over the phone! Abscessed tooth...pulled it...problem solved.

I used to have a cat who had abcesses. They were always caused by a weed called "foxtails" and the only way to cure them was for the vet to open them up and clean them out thoroughly, then keep the wound open on top and clean it daily to make sure it healed from the bottom out instead of letting the top heal over and trap the infection inside.

Hope Misha is well soon! When a Terrier's "off" it really is a big deal

Hi Folks, thanks for all your kind responses. We went back to the vet who had another looks and says she thinks it will be okay. We explained we thought it might be the tooth, but she thinks it would be unusual in a dog her age. We've got to put cream on it for the next few days and see if it heals, otherwise they'll do an Xray. The wound itself does look better, but she seems really at of sorts so we can't figure it out. We are just about getting a tail wag out of her when we mention 'walk' and she is doing lots of moaning and sighing. We are not really sure if this is connected to the abscess not, we will see what the next few days brings... :(

Well she's a little better today, certainly on the outside it is healing well, but she keeps hiding her head under her paw, I don't know if that is because it is itching from the healing, or it hurts still. Will see if a couple of good beach walks this weekend cheers her up.
