Today I took Casey to the large field for our afternoon walk. When we were 15mins into the walk a women and a boy came onto the field with a terrier and labrador about 20 metres infront of us. The lab looked at Casey and took a few steps towards her but the woman yelled for it to follow her which it did.

They then headed into the middle of the field and we stayed on the edge. A few minutes later I hear the woman yelling again shouting "oi come here now". I wondered what was going on, I half expected to see the lab ripping my dogs throat out. I looked back as Casey was behind me and the lab was making it's way towards her in a very friendly manner. They were just saying hi so I didn't call her I just moved closer. At this stage the boy was running very fast and trying to get the labs lead on it. The lab was running all over trying to greet me and Casey and the boy just couldn't get its lead on. I held Casey by her collar so she didn't distract the dog.

The woman eventually made her way over still shouting at the dog, snatched the lead of the boy and made whipping gestures at the dog to get it away from Casey. She then grabbed hold of the dog, told it of and hit it on it's nose with the lead. Put the lead on and dragged it away.

Sorry for the rant. I just didn't understand why she had to continuously yell at the dog and then proceed to hit it with the lead.

 I feel you..

Yesterday on our walk to the beach, a man and a "lady" infront of us were walking a Pittie. The dog seemed dog aggressive (why someone would bring a dog-aggressive dog to the dog beach is beyond me.) Everytime the dog would make the slighest growl the lady hit it on the head. NO WONDER the dog is so aggressive and no wonder Pitties have such a bad rep. IDIOTS like her ruin these beautiful dogs. It looked like the dog was either a.) pregnant or b.) in heat.. so obviously unspayed. Her nipples were large and her vulva was very swollen. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS!!!

Because that dog beach is open to public?

My biggest problem there are not dog aggresive dogs on the leash but over excited offleash labs....

OH SERIOUSLY!??!! Open to the public and clearly states NO aggressive dogs, like 99.9% of all dog parks, beaches, etc. Geez. It is common sense NOT to bring an aggressive dog to a crowded dog beach. Especially since the train to and from the beach is only about a foot across. You're almost holding hands with the person who walks in the opposite direction as you. It is stressful for the aggressive dog wanting to rip the other dogs apart, and stressful on yourself, and other dogs/dog owners so WHY do it. And yes, I'm saying this from experience and this is the reason my Simba does not go to the park or beach other than in the winter when it is abandoned.

Some pet owners are just irresponsible and plain stupid.

It hurts you from not letting your dog to other dogs without asking owners permission?

Are you talking about honeymoon island dog beach?

Orion - Your pathetic. So you would take a dog agressive dog to a place were there are lots of other dogs?

You know I really do hope that your dog does something so you get sued. You'll deserve it.

No, it hurts that I am not allowed to walk past someone with my dog without their dog lunging at mine. As a responsible pet owner, it is our duty to keep any aggressive animals away from the general public. Maybe you do not agree with responsible pet ownership, but I do.

It is really none of your business which beach I am talking about.

I don't care to argue with you, so move along now.

You are certainly not one to talk. I do not believe I have insulted anyone here, and if I have it has not been intentionally. You on the other hand seem to jump down anyone's throat any chance you get. I'm sorry for that too because that is not a sign of a happy person, and I wish you luck.

I do? Thats new to me. I only lost my temper a couple of times on these boards both times I was either racially insulted or my breed was being insulted.

Please provide said proof of me "jump down anyone's throat any chance you get"

:)

Humor me...

I have a dog-aggressive dog and she does not go to dog parks. IMO, only an idiot would bring a dog-aggressive animal to a place where there are lots of off-leash dogs. I am working on my girl's issue, and she's getting better. I'm hoping and praying she'll get to the point that she can play nicely with other dogs, and if she gets to that point, then I may bring her to dog parks to play with other dogs, but never when she is still dog-aggressive.

She does come in contact with other dogs, however, that is during our training (working on her aggression), and she is leashed and under my control at all times.

Oriondw, I believe you have been quite rude more than twice here...I have seen quite a few rude posts from you. Some were for good reason, others were completely wrong.

BUT let's not fight about this. It's stupid. No need to fight over this. People disagree all the time. Not everyone is going to agree with your opinions, you have to deal with it.

Um, I don't really see where the problem is here with Orion's statement. He just asked a question and you guys are all over him. How about not assuming the worst and asking what he meant rather than calling him names.

Right, where there are alot of off-leash dogs. Playing devils advocate, the dog beach she is speaking about specifically states for all dogs to be leashed. :)

So why is one better then the other?

I don't see where she says the dog park requires all dogs to be leashed.

So why is meeting other dogs leashed better then meeting them off-leash? I think it's quite obvious - the dog aggressive dog cannot go and attack the other animals.

there is only one public dog beach in palm harbor ;)

What I meant, why is a off-leash dog better then leashed aggresive dog?

Aggressive dogs that are kept under control bother nobody. If somebody has an aggressive dog but keeps it under control, I see no reason why they should be forbidden to go places.
Just as bad and annoying as the lunging maniacs that want to eat every dog in sight, are the excessively friendly dogs that run to the end of their lead and provoke the dogs that were behaving nicely and under control. If everyone would grow half a brain and control their dogs regardless of how "friendly" they are it would be so much easier to go places where one would encounter strange dogs.

What is better: An aggressive dog kept under control on a short lead, or a bouncy, hyper labrador freaking out at the end of a flexi? That Labrador may provoke the aggressive dog and start a fight, but if it was kept under control as well, there would be no problem. People assume that because their dog is friendly, it should be allowed to do whatever it wants.

I assume you live in Palm Harbor?? Because there is more than one in this area, but not in Palm Harbor. There are no beaches in Palm Harbor - It is not a costal city. ;)

You all are taking this way out of proportion. My main rant was the fact that this imbecile was smacking her dog in it's head repeatedly. If you're going to bring a dog-aggressive dog to a dog beach you should expect it to react that way, and smacking it in the head is not the way to correct it. Also, this person made no effort to stay away from other dog owners and their dogs. They walked with the dog on their left side, the dog being closest to the dogs walking in the other direction, with the dog coming within inches of biting other people's dogs.

Why Orion has decided start such a fuss over a simple post about one's opinions, I'm not sure... but I do believe it's not necessary because he/she was not there to witness the situation.

none of mine are dog aggresive, but the rottie rescued, used as a puppy machine hates pups,i wouldnt dream of taking her where i knew pups were and out walking if i see anyone with a pup her lead goes on,i warn the owner of the pup,i also tell them that the others are ok,i then restrain them all as they are all large breeds, this works great and the pup gets to say hello, socialise without getting squashed or lifted up by an enquiring nose, lol,as dog owners we should all be aware of others around us,then nasty incidents shouldnt occur, just my way of doing things
