It seems that more times than not when we take Kea (6 mo old border collie) to the off leash area this happens. This lady comes up to us and starts by complimenting us on how cute Kea is. Then she announces that when we get sick of her, she will take her from us! To me that is like going up to parents of twins and saying you will adopt the babies when it gets too much. I mean I know border collies are notorious for driving their owners crazy, but come on!

Thanks for letting me rant. All better now. ;)

A lady with a Corgi at my dog park says the same thing about Fozzie!!! OMGahh. "If you ever need to find him a new home... please call me!" Um. NO. You're rude.

Obviously, if you are an owner that takes your pup to the dog park regularly, odds are you are a responsible owner who loves her! I seriously wonder about anyone who offers to take some one's dog that the owner clearly loves & cares about - it's almost as if they see the dog as a piece of property and nothing else. It really is offensive, because they're basically assuming you're an irresponsible dog owner. The last time the Corgi lady said that to me, I politely said: "No, I'm never going to re-home Fozzie... so there is no need to even offer that. I love my dogs, and when I get a dog, it's for life. However, there are tons of cute Corgi mixes in shelters that you should look into adopting." Once, at a regular park when Fozzie was about 4 months old, a man with 2 kids and his wife seriously came up to me and offered to pay me right there & buy my puppy! There is NO WAY, not for any amount of money.

btw... Kea is awwdorable! We need more pics! And, if you ever get sick of having such a sweet, precious, cuddly pup around... you know who to call. ;D

I use to have people do that with my border collies too. That's changed now that they are full grown balls of engery. I don't think a lot of people understand not everything can be bought, even for a large price.

People on another forum joke that way all the time.............they will say "I think you need to send rover to me if he gets to be too much"

I think they mean it as a nice way to say you really have a great dog!! I would take it as a compliment unless she is creepy and looks to be "casing out your dog" to steal later :)

I've had people say that to me before too. I just shrug and tell them that it's not too likely I'll get sick of my dogs. ;)

And um, you have a BC puppy and haven't posted pics. Are you just DYING to be mauled by pic-hungry BC fanatics? >_>

I wanna see the puppy! Posthaste. :D

A guy I work with told me that a crazy lady called him in tears because him and his wife wouldn't give their young min-pin to her for her birthday! As it happens I know the lady and can testify she is a nutter so I have no problem at all visualising her doing this. Before they realised that she was uhm... a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic, they had considered leaving the min-pin with her when they had to leave town for a week.

Sure as gun's iron, they'd never have got him back.

this happens to me with the chis all the time, "oh its so cute and tiny, ill buy it from you" or "oh i want one just like that, paris has a longhaired one now, how much" or "well your young, heres my number, when you get bored give us a call well take them off your hands"

I have no probelm when someone comes up jokingly and tells me in such ways my dogs are adorable and they want one or other something similar, but when people insinuate that they can offer me any amount to take my babies or worse because im only 22 they think my parents whent out and bought them and ill get bored...
*sigh*

then theres the people that are just plain ignorant.

Are you sure she didn't mean it in a joking kind of way...?

I know at my dog park (we all know each other pretty well, LOL) we joke about that all the time.

I would also just take it as a compliment, unless she was being really serious...

It happens to me frequently from older owners who see me with Duke and assume because of my young age ( I'm 17) that clearly I'm an irresponsible owner and am completely incapable of owning and caring for a dog. I've even had people go as far as asking if I walk him regularly, try and tell me why dog training is important ( when yet duke behaves beautifully on lesh and in publicly), why I should walk him daily.

At first I used to write it off as owners just making sure my dog is being cared for well, but I know realistically if I were 25 and over our conversations would be very different.
