It was an interesting experience. When we first went in all the performers made a huge fuss over Molly and she loved it (got really excited - submissive urination :yikes:). Molly's problem is she wants to visit everyone and the young girl playing Annie isn't used to being around dogs, so it took the producer to go buy some hot dogs to keep Molly's attention and come when called. Luckily, the director shows dogs and he was able to get results. At first Molly was nervous because everything is so loud and because they were rehearsing at a dance studio Molly was fascinated by her own image in the mirrored walls! When Annie was sitting on the floor singing 'Tomorrow' with Molly laying beside her, Molly started rolling on her back and stretching and goofing around. Everyone was laughing. The director told Annie to make sure to control Molly so she doesn't upstage her. The girl playing Annie has an amazing voice - I feel lucky to be an observer.

We go back tomorrow at 2:45 pm.

Sorry, I didn't see that this thread was started.

My 12 year old daughter is an "extra" (she's a servant, chorus person with non-speaking parts but is in several scenes) in "Annie Jr." at her middle school. It's part of the "Broadway Jr. Collection" which "adapts classic and contemporary musicals into 70-minute editions perfect for middle-school aged performers."
Their website http://www.broadwayjr.com/default_HOME.asp

They've been working really hard and have rehearsals on Saturdays and every day after school until 5:30. I believe the role of Sandy (the dog) is actually being played by a student. They have 3 shows next week (Friday the 29th and Saturday 1st). One show Friday night and two shows on Saturday.

Two years ago they did "Guys and Dolls Jr". I think she may have enjoyed that more. She was a gambler in that.

I think these are great for kids ... IF they want it !!! The gal that played Annie in Bubba;s production wasn't quite 8 !!! She not only did a great job but is still interested and acting . Many who saw the play both on Broadway and in Chicago said that it equaled them ....all the kids were fantastic !! The talent was amazing !

Yes, eddyq and bubbatd the kids are amazing. This afternoon I had the opportunity to see quite a bit of song and dance - these people are so talented and focused and yet are really enjoying themselves. The atmosphere feels so good - it's a pleasure to be in the room and absorb it. Molly was very good considering she's never been in a room with so many people, especially when there is so much movement and volume - she is adjusting very well. This is great because I want to expose her to as many different situations as possible - this is a real treat!

I brought in some rope (thanks bubbatd) but they didn't use it today. I think it would indeed be easier for Annie to hold onto. Today they kept the leash on Molly. They've instructed everyone not to touch Molly so she will have a bond with Annie.

They also didn't use hot dogs today, but the producer told me they would have chicken ones next time as Annie doesn't eat meat. Poor kid never said a word last night as they had her biting off a piece and keeping it in her mouth until Molly came and sat then she'd give her the piece. Plus, Annie was keeping the rest of the hot dog in the pouch I use around my waist with all the dog treats in it - yuck - so each time she took a bite it had been rolling in the dog treats - double yuck!

So anxious to know !!!! Good luck to your daughter Eddie !!! Also . I was thinking about Molly last night ......I imagine that they are using the original script . In the scene where the paper boy runs across the stage and Sandy follows .... I was off stage with Bubba and handed the paper boy a dog cookie as he ran off .... then released Bubba to " go get cookie " . Then in the scene when Annie and Sandy meet the homeless people and they offer her the cup of soup ... which she " beaths " and says " Maybe my dog would like some ".... I made sure they had kibble for Bubba in the cup ..... he loved that scene !!! Sat with Annie until they offered and then chowed down . !!! In the last scene , we didn't use a box ..... Sandy was just brought in ( groomed to the enth degree ) with a huge bow I made of red , wired ribbon .... it lasted through all productions . Boy have you brought back some wonderful memories !!!! I hope that they use the rope rather than a leash .... more realistic .!!! This is a stray .....

Hi Bubbatd.
We haven't been in those scenes yet but thanks for the tips - now I know what to expect. I'm so glad you asked as I'm bursting with pride today as there is a half page write up in the local paper about the production and I quote:

One of the "shining stars", however, is bound to be its youngest member: Molly, a 9 month old poodle-golden retriever cross who is making her stage debut as Sandy, Annie's adopted stray dog.

"Annie" has the winning combination of a great cast, a good script, hummable music, cute kids and an adorable dog, all of which make early ticket purchases a must for this sell-out show.

The director said I'm doing him a huge favor but I feel Molly and I are getting a huge treat. It's wonderful. They don't need us again until Mar. 8 and have provided a schedule when they would like her to attend. I love it.

It was great!!!! All of the kids worked really hard and made an entertaining show.

The girl who played Annie actually fell down the steps at rehearsal yesterday and sprained her wrist. She did the show with a brace on her arm, but they just made it looke like a tattered glove.

The girl who played Sandy was made up great, full makeup, fuzzy suit and crawled around very dog-like.

I think my 2nd-favorite actor (my daughter being tops) was the kid who played Rooster. In about 10 years when he turns 21, I wanna buy that kid a beer and hang out. He's a riot.

They were adamant about no pictures, audio and video. Talked about the strict copyright stuff.

Oh - I'll probably be in the same situation. I don't want to be pushy BUT I was hoping they will allow me to take some pics or video of the rehearsal parts with Molly. I haven't gotten the courage to ask yet.

I think staged pics are different from pics/video of the performance. They actually offered to set aside a time after the last performance to stage some scenes for people to take some still pics. Probably some kind of loophole.
