Subject: Animal Gestapo right to enter your home
I thought some of you might find this interesting to read. It seems dog owners are losing more rights. It just keeps getting worse.
CROSSPOSTED FROM ANOTHER LIST

(feel free to crosspost)

Very sad day in El Paso, Texas today. The agenda to amend the animal possession ordinance appears to be about to pass.
This will establish the birth of the Animal Gestapo that has the right to enter any home and confiscate (put to death) any puppy or dog that is not microchipped, not registered, or not otherwise in compliance with the ordinance (no more than
5 animals total per house). Crafters of this legislation are the infamous animal rights group "Pets Alive" affiliated with ...of course...the PETA terrorist movement....the same group that ramrodded the Austin legislation that outlawed breeding in that city. How can this be happening in the US..obviously not the home of the FREE anymore.
I know you are all saying...not here..and not in my town...but they are winning and they WILL get to you in time..maybe 2
years..maybe 5 years..but we are losing. So very sad that most in opposition are afraid to say anything in fear of being targeted by the all encompassing powers being given to ACO (Animal Control Officers).

What? That's crap! The bill that is, not the post. There is no good reason for an unmicrochipped dog to be confiscated! NONE!

Amazing isn't it? How can a dog being microchipped have anything to do with the character of the dog.

The gov't is getting way out of control with pet related laws. The reason they do what they do is pet owners haven't really stood up yet, I think it is time.

Here's a link detailing the info. I don't like this at all. To be honest, I have no problems about most of the requirements. I think they're good things. From what I understand, a reputable breeder wouldn't have more than two litters a year anyway. If anything, the only ones this will hurt are backyard breeders, or those who are at it for the money. What I don't like is the ability for officers to randomly check homes. That is so wrong! And to me, that's reason enough to throw the whole thing down the toilet.

...so the new law says they can show up at your house and you have to let them in for no other reason than to see what pets you have and fine you for not having them microchipped? Hmmm.....seems pretty unconstitutional to me-I think if anyone challenged that on a higher level it would be thrown right out......

I think it is unconstatutional. However, I think many of the new laws concerning animals are... Has Hitler been re-born and taken over this country?

So it begins! The bill passing through congresses hands will only make this matter worse. PAWS is going on right now and we all need to be aware of it. This bill will hurt more than you know if it passes. People think that it will help the treatment of animals and I am here to tell you that it will not. It is in the federal governements hands waiting. Why does the federal government ever have this bill? Don't they have more important things to worry about, I can think of a few things. How about overcrowded prisons or the drug problem or the war or homeland security at our borders, but no they are concerned about PAWS! Yes what is this free county coming too indeed. If this bill is passed you will need more than microchips I assure you. The commercial breeders will be the only ones allowed to freely own and breed animals. Go to your search engine if you have not already and read about this issue. I don't know about everyone elses take on this but I find it VERY disturbing. You are right in saying they will get to you in a matter of time. It is becoming more and more prevelent that states and city codes outlawing certain breeds, but yet you can go to somewhere else and buy lions, tigers, and bears oh my. Exotic pets are seen in the news getting loose all the time and yet who is fighting to stop that "Threat" and it is a very real threat.
We should all be wondering where our rights as a whole will be Ten to Fifteen years from today.
Sorry if I offended anyone, that is not my intentions just my opinions on the issues at hand in this country today.

Hope I didn't offend anyone about the Hitler remark. I am very concerned about our loss of rights. We seem to be losing more rights everyday.

So they will come knocking on my door. What happens if I refuse to let them in? Am I going to be arrested? It's my house. I decide who is and isn't welcome to enter my residence. It's none of the goveronment's darn business how many pets I keep as long as they are well taken care of. It just makes me livid how these people think they can control my life. Next bill they will come up with is for me to make sure that fresh coffee and breakfast, lunch or dinner are ready when officers come to pay me a visit. Even better, they might ask to wait until the officer tells me how she/he likes the steak; rare, medium or well-done.
It's pathetic

Your right again it is pathetic isn't it. There are over 300 groups opposing this bill and yes they will be allow to come into your home and take your dogs and yes if you refuse and this bill passes you will be arrested. Here is a website that will explain http://www.nopaws.org/donate.htm
Then again there are about 30,611 hits on groups opposing the PAWS bill and why. It is taking away your rights not just trying to control the ethical treatment of animals so don't be fooled.

I don't understand the reasoning behind micro chipping. What does that have to do with anything? Do they want to track the dogs movement? Are they now like vehicles where the police can track them?

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Here's the info I found: "Pet owners who answer the door and refuse to cooperate with an animal control employee will risk being ticketed for not producing proper documentation. The owner would be able to challenge the citation in municipal court."

So it's a ticket, not an arrest. A ticket is bad enough, don't get me wrong, but there won't be people hauled off to jail yet.

Here's yet more info:

And here's a copy of the city ordinance. I find it rather interesting.
