Found this while looking for something about an upcoming rodeo:

I have always hated rodeos they always made me sad even when I was little , I remember I would get mad when they roped the little calf. I have always had a big heart when it come's to animals.Me and my daughter let all the dogs out of the dog catcher truck one day and we kept one for ourselfs we called her Lady. We even tryed to break a maine shelter out because it was in bad shape and we fealt sorry for the dogs, but we failed darn it!!!But these kind of things they do to these animals are cruel and inhumane, there is so much more goes on behind the scense that people don't know. The bucking horses they put stickers on them they also hit them with a hot stick that shocks them, if your ever watching them you can see there eyes when they do it. And the calfs they almost pull there tails off before they open the gate so no wonder they are running so fast so would I. There is just so much more than meets the eye than people know. This needs to stop now!!! Thank you Trudi. R. noted

*Shrugs* Call me strange, but I don't see anything tecnically wrong. It appears to be someone with a big heart, who felt they were trying to help the dogs. A little misguided, maybe, as the dogs they let loose ended up as strays again, but their heart seemed in the right place. Appears to me they wanted to give the dogs a chance, before they were put down by the pound.

I've done my fair share of stupid and crazy things to keep dogs out of high-kill pounds here, to get them out of the wrong hands, or just to get a dog out of a bad situation.

Doesn't make me a nutjob. Makes me someone with a heart for animals. Call me whacky.

Where I come from it's safer for dogs to be in the shelter than running out wild. When they're on the street they can breed, starve, be poisoned, get hit by a car, or be shot if they go on farmers' property. Letting out all the dogs is so irresponsible, I'm shocked someone would do that.

But some of the worst things have been done with the best intentions. She did not improve the conditions of those dogs one bit, expect for maybe the one that she took home. Life as a stray is extremely hard for dogs--they can be run over, poisoned (accidentally or intentionally), get in fights and suffer from infections, starve, etc. They actually have *more* of a shot in a shelter, even a high-kill than on the streets. If they are put down in the shelter at least it won't be a slow, agonizing death.

How scary. Rodeo's arn't my thing, some parts of them I agree with more than others but I try to be educated in it. Calf roping I'm not a fan of, Bull riding I'm not keen on although I know atleast where I used to live, a lot of the bulls were very well cared for and if they wern't doing rodeo's, they would be facing the slaughterhouse.

its good to have a big heart, but use your brain before you do more harm then good.

Sounds similar to "freeing" all the dogs at dog shows because "dog shows are cruel", and then they all run out and get hit by cars/lost forever.

Big heart.. maybe.. . to bad they didn't have any brains to go with it

ya letting dogs out to starve or get hit by cars is soooo much better than being in a shelter. Its only one step to get to PETA's they are better off dead than being pets.

all that PLUS... what if "Lady" was someones beloved pet who had gotten loose. Now Lady's owners searched all the shelters and never found their beloved pet because some whackjob has it at home.

AND... what if these dogs are aggressive? Now they were on their way to getting off the streets and now they are put back to attack a small child or another dog out for a walk with their parent/owner.

Very true. But since when did AR people care about HUMANS? Children aren't important to them as most seem to hate the human race.

This person sounds like the kind the ARistas target . . . big on heart and short on brains. The post is worded in a way that is very simple and badly composed.

Or . . . it could be an inflammatory post BY one of the AR groups and a complete fabrication for nothing but effect and propaganda purposes to incite some other poor ignorant soul with a big heart to do something stupid.

I get how these people are "short on brains" but I really fail to see how they have "big hearts".

They seem like crazy crazy people to me who care only about themselves.

Many of these "activists" have pets, correct? So they think they should have them but no one else should? They are good enough but no one else is?

They arent thinking about humans and they are not helping animals so who are they helping?

I really would like to get into their brain (or heart)... why are they doing what they are doing?

All i can think of is.. imagine if Kenya (God forbid) ran away, and they had her in truck.. she wouldve gone to the shelter, been checked for a microchip and then be back home with me.
but because of this well meaning lady, Kenya would be back on the streets.

this woman needs to THINK. Im sure she is well meaning, i mean when i was a KID i thought about doing the same things when i was a kid, but she needs to think of the consequences of her actions.
Being in a shelter with food, water, a roof over their head, a chance to find their owners or a chance at a home is A HELL OF A LOT better than being on the streets

Unfortunately actions like that are pretty common among the AR world :( I have a friend who is active in dog showing and she has seen activists at shows before and knows of a few times where dogs have been released from kennels, etc...Growing up in 4-H and around rodeos I have seen activists harrass children and try to release bulls from their pens.

My fiance is a professional bull rider, and my family is heavily involved in rodeo as well (dad used to be a pro saddle bronc rider and after that a judge, my brother rides broncs now, my sister and I barrel race) and the sport itself is not abusive :) Broncs and bulls get very very good care, right down to chiropractic care and massages. At least at the professional level. Of course there are abusers in every animal related sport (and ownership in general) so it does happen, but there are strict animal welfare guidelines at professional rodeos and they are trying to stomp out abusers. Just like any other animal related sport.
