That's just so totally insane....literally!!!! She murders all of her children and doesn't have to go to prison for the rest of her life. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!! I know that she was suffering from post partum depression (supposedly) at the time but to be found not guilty....I can't believe it!!!!!

Do you know anything about her condition? could you imagine how sick you would have to be to take five kids you gave birth too and drown them?

She is sick and a hospital is the place for her.

go onto a psych ward a couple times. People in her life failed her,I still think her husband is more at fault than her. He knew she was sick and didn't want her being on any meds:rolleyes: He kept pushing for more kids when she said no. People around her knew she was sick, this is one of those cases were a person can't be responcible. She tried to get help and she couldn't.

Not to mention most prisons are far better than any mentall hospital.

Her condition meaning post pardom depression? If so yes I have experienced that but that shouldn't be used as an excuse for killing 5 children. I believe she knew what she was doing. I agree.. her husband should've been more aware. Hopefully she'll get the right treatment she needs in the hospital.

The bottom line is that she killed her 5 children....anyone who does that is sick or insane. It's very sad....I understand how post partum can be because I had it with both of my children but extremely bad with my first child. If I murdered my children then I'd belong in a mental institution or prison. That's just how I feel about the situation. I can't imagine the horrer those children endured knowing that their mother, who is supposed to protect them, was trying to end their lives. It's absolutely unfathomable.:(

Not sure. They showed video tape of her at the trial and she seemed to be all there.

I thought her husband had taken her to see dr's and such, he knew there was a problem, but she stopped treatment or taking the meds?/ Either way its a tragedy, and prison or hospital she won't be able to to it again.

He only let her go when she was trying to slit her own throat. When the signs popped back up he ignored them. I'll try to find a small recap.

We went really in depth to it in my psych nursing class but I cna't for the life of me remember half of it!

I have a schizophrenic aunt who was institutionalized throughout her entire last pregnency because she couldn't take the meds. there are entire wings of some hospitals that deal with things like that. the thing is the people around these moms need to know what to look for and not jsut ignore it or think it'll turn out ok cuz someone will end up dead. there are sooo many mental illnesses and think of all the people that suffer from them that have kids. It can be scary but luckilly people step in and help.

Joce is right.

And what people do not realize is the legal system is still defining "insanity" with standards developed around the "knowledge" we had of mental illness back in the 1920s . . .

I have only the utmost pity for this woman. If there is any mercy in the Universe, she will never recover enough of her sanity to realize what she did.

No sane person could do that. I dont see being locked away in a mental institution as a way of getting off easy. Personally, if I were senenced to life in an asylum I would rather die, if thats any comfort to those of you who want her dead or tortured.

I will NEVER forget this! Not only did 911 happen that year but before that Andrea Yates drowned her children and I was sitting on the couch watching the news 6 months PREGNANT with my first child and learning about postpartum cycosis. Boy was I scared! As far as Yates goes, lets face it, we all think of doing crazy things once in awhile but to actually follow through with those cycotic thoughts is another thing. I think her husband is a nut case to. Yeah, my wife killed my five beautiful, innocent children, but I still love her! *GAG me* How can you love someone who killed your babies is beyond me. I would never want to look at her face again without wanting to drowned her!

I dont agree with any of it...

I say an eye for an eye..

What ever you do to someone is what should be done to you....

If you drown someone, you should be drowned
If you shoot someone, you should be shot
If you boil someone alive, you should be boiled alive...
