I mean really, what the frick? Lady gives birth, wakes up with out legs or arms, and the hospital says that she'll have to sue them to get an explanation? WHAT. THE. FAMILY FORUM.? (but it does start with an f...)

http://www.wftv.com/news/6253589/detail.html

I don't know what's going to happen but some hospital administrators deserve some serious knocking around. Figuratively...and well probably physically too.

The hospital maintains the woman wants to know information that would violate other patients' rights.
Huh? Did they donate her limbs to another patient?

Geemanee! I would have been screaming for a lawsuit the second the anesthesia wore off enough for me to realize what had happened. And don't the patients have to sign a surgery consent form anyway?? And mark the lines they want cut on themselves just to prevent this from happening? I feel SOOOO sorry for that lady...

And one of the the links below is just as bad. A woman reporting a rape was instead arrested and spent two days in jail herself, during which time a guard refused to give her the second dose of the already prescribed morning-after pill because of "religious convictions".

thats a old story isn't it.

What happened was she developed a infection and if they wouldn't have removed it she would have died.

What she is asking is who did she get it from and thats apparently what they are not about to tell her.

Not that it makes it better but she knew the amputations were going to take place and she did give consent. Its a horrible situation but the news made it soudn like they put her out to take her kid and accidently cut off her arms/legs. the surgery was done twelve days later.

It sucks-a lot. But what else could be done? Look into how many people develop infections at hospitals, its a lot. Leads to a lot of deaths to. she is very lucky to be alive.

She may have had the condition before she gave birth and never sought medication . They could have saved her life and now 7 years later she's questioning ?? Something's screwy .

My neighbours grandaughter died last year. The hospital screwed up and there is an ongoing lawsuit which I am sure the hospital will win. Not because they are right, but because the family cannot keep paying the lawyers fees and are getting bled to the bone.

Maybe the OP's lady's story is fishy but I believe in Lina's case the hospital screwed up.

I also knew a family in HK. The woman went in to have her leg rebroken and reset and they gave her the wrong gas. No-one noticed until her lips and fingernails turned blue. The hospital blamed the gas supplier, the gas supplier blamed the hospital ... and a family lost a much loved anchor.

Hospitals save many, many lives but they are not infallible.

I think it is important for people in general to remember this. Humans make mistakes... it sucks, and it can really effect another person's life, but I think people need to take a step back sometimes.

I work in a profession that the media hovers over waiting for someone to make a mistake. If they do, it's front page news for weeks. Now on the other hand, if me and my coworkers do their jobs responsibly and without the inevitable mistake day in and day out, no one says a darn thing, even though we are responsible for saving lives and preventing harm on a minute by minute basis, but, because of human nature... we're all ready to pounce on the first news story where someone messes up.

But it wasn't a mess up like the article makes it sound-the infection was the bad part-the amputation had to take place or she would have died.
