I was out for a walk with Peanut the other day. It was a lovely day and we had a nice walk. That is, until we were almost home. We're a few minutes away from home and we see this huge brindle dog. I cant see too well, but my initial thought was a fila or a boxer. Anyways, this dog is just running loose in front of someones house, having a great time. Someone just let their dog run offleash and throughout the streets. Peanut noticed the dog, but Im glad to say that shes been doing great controlling her dog-aggression and didnt even grunt at this dog. Anyways, we have to turn around and walk all the way back to get home. We finally get home and I'm a bit angry and obviously concerned about this dog. I wanted to call animal control, because this is not the first time Ive seen this dog running loose. Anothertime I saw him, he was accompanied with what looked like a pitbull and a sheltie. Would calling animal control be "out of place" for me to do? Its a pretty busy street and there are lots of people out this time of year, not to mention little kids playing outside. Suggestions?

Nope I don't think it would be out of place at all. I would have called them the first time I saw them running around.

I call because it isn't safe for the dog to be running loose. It is always better to be safe then wish you had done something once something bad has happened. For instance if he/she gets hit by a car.

You would not be in the wrong to call. If this was a first offense I would say write a little anonymous letter and slip it in their mailbox stating that if you see their dogs at large again you will be contacting animal control. But since this isn't the first time I think AC is definately the way to go

Calling animal control would help save those loose dogs from getting hit buy a car, someone ELSE taking them/stealing them or them getting into a dog fight(if they were dog aggresive or another dog they came into contact with was). Calling animal control would be in the ANIMALS best interest. At least there, they are taken care of.

Obviously their owners dont love them enough to care about their well being.

Riot is allowed on our front lawn off leash - ONLY when i'm there watching him and for the simple fact that he things our front lawn is HIS and he doesn't leave his territory.. just protects it lol
Hes learned that crossing the street results in "jail time".. lol

He'll now just chase small animals to the line of his property and stop

Thanks for the advice. Ill call next time I see him. Ive read about how dogs can have serious attitude changes when travelling in packs, and there are tons of little kids in my neighborhood. Im not sure where the dog(s) live, exactly but I think Ive got a good idea.
