Potty training Jazz

So if I see she has to go I take her outside, she goes and I giver her a treat 9usually a peice or two of her kibble).

Now if she goes inside because I didnt watch closely I just ignore it and clean it up.

Does this sound OK?

yep, She's around 8-9 wks right? I would be taking her out every hour or so when your home during the day, right after waking up, and after meals.

At nite, I'm assuming your crating? Last time out is late as possible, and then early as possible. At this age, they just can't hold it yet.

And definately reward for "good potty",,and you might even when you take her out, use a phrase/command such as "go potty"..In the end, You can teach a dog to "go" on command if you choose. Always reward for the good behaviors whether you ask for them or not.

I use "Hurry Up" and sometimes Ralph fakes me out. He does a "courtesy" lift of the leg...but nothing comes out. Then looks at me like "Ok, where's the reward?"

funny, Bailey has been know to trick me too! I think sometimes I just take him out too often, and he wants to play b/c he doesn't have to go.

Jenn, sounds like you're on the right path to potty training. It is challenging in the beginning, but I truely believe in the key word practice. I use my key words with Bailey and he will go on command for me. It's wonderful when I have company and I take him out, b/c he wants to be back inside with them, so I tell him "go tee-tee" or "potty" and he'll go, and head back to the door ready to go back inside.

I began using a firm NO if I caught Bodhi in action (ie peeing). This made the whole thing a lot quicker and understandable for her.

No need to shout, just No! and take her outside.

Yeah the last time I ever caught Zoe in the house me and everyone in the room said No and she stopped and held it til she got outside. And that was when she was still a puppy. But I never had many accidents with her.
