ERG! I'm kinda pissed at the moment. I live in an apartment complex where there is a weight limit of 35lbs or less on dogs.

I live in the way back so my back porch there is a little grass space and then a fence. So there's not a lot of people/dogs/etc back there. But this apartment two doors down has this springer spaniel and giant yellow lab. The springer is on a tie out but the lab is let to roam around, which honestly I don't mind too much them letting their dog out to pee as long as they kept an eye on it.

But this thing is VERY aggressive, which I found out just recently! >_<

Art had to pee so I told him to sit/stay at the door while I went out and checked around. I know the springer was pretty aggressive last time I went out there with Art, but I figured that's why they had it on a tie out and not roaming like the lab.

So I went and peeked around the corner, the lab saw me and immediately starting barking and running for me. And this was NOT a nice bark at all! I immediately ran for my door and closed it just as the dog jump against the glass snarling/growling at me!

It never even saw Art! This is a very human aggressive dog, way over the weight limit (probably 100 lbs as it's fat) and they let it just roam around freely!!!!!

I mean if it got me it would hurt like hell and would do some serious damage but if it got Art it would've killed him in an instant!!!

Yes that's the first thing I did! They said they will send them a notice but legally they have to give them 10 days before they can do anything. They said the people can do whatever within those ten days (even let the aggressive dog roam) but after the tenth day that's when they really have to stop. o_O

Isn't there a leash law? From your description, that's not private property- or at least not that tenants private property.

Can you talk to the Lab owner ??
No, because thus far it's annonymous. I'm not risking retaliation by talking to someone who probably won't care anyways. :/

Good! :)

Yes, and even though the dog is dangerous they still said legally they have to give a 10 day notice before any action can be taken.

Oh, I would have recommended talking to the lab owner too. I just would go with the possibility that they didn't know their dog would react that way. I mean, the dog may have been acting territorial and it may not have been anything the owner had ever seen it do before.

I know if my dogs were behaving poorly, I would really appreciate somebody letting me know. I would want to apologize and make sure it didn't happen again.

I meant just talking to them to ask if their dog was dangerous because of what happened . Many were afraid of my dogs because of their size . When meeting one on one they learned they were pussy cats .

In this case it doesn't sound like a matter of someone just afraid of a dog's size though.

I would bet your Goldens really were sweethearts ... and they never ran up to people with an aggressive bark and then crashed snarling into the person's door after the person hurried back into their home. The OP described that kind of attempted attack on her from her neighbor's loose Lab. :(

Did you try calling animal control? I'd think they could probably do something a little sooner than 10 days and hopefully fine them, too.

even if your apartment complex can't do anything for ten days, YOU can. Next time the dog is roaming, call animal control. THEY don't have to wait 10 days. ;)

the way to the owners brain would be through their watering eyes from their pepper/mace sprayed dog.

You may want to carry something like pepper spray just incase you run into the dog again. I mean, it sounds like you were lucky to have been by the door and could get out of reach quickly. You don't want to get cornered / bitten anything!

I agree, carry mace/pepper spray with you, who knows when you'll run up against this dog again? It's best to be prepared!

I agree with calling animal control, too. The apartments may not be able to do anything any sooner, but animal control may.

i'd also carry pepper spray or an automatic umbrella, too

Unfortunately I've learned animal control won't do anything. Unless you call 911 they won't do anything. I've tried them a few times after one of my dogs was attacked from people who consistently let their dogs roam, but they never come even if I give the address of the aggressive animal. To make it worse, they just announced they have plans to close the shelter here.

On the up side, neither me or my boyfriend has seen the lab at all. :)
