got me wondering about fitness per state/city in America and how it pans out.

This is Forbes list of 'fat' cities: Forbes List: Most Obese Cities in America - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

What's interesting in the metro areas is the highest rate of poverty produces the highest rate of obesity. That should make it pretty plain that buying all the cheap foods filled with empty refined carbs is more costly in the long run than purchasing fresh, whole foods. I guess Michelle Obama should be starting her fight on THAT premise huh?

A list of States in order of fattest to fittest: Fattest States 2010: CalorieLab's Annual Obesity Map - State Obesity Rankings

Go Colorado!........number one fittest state AGAIN! For some reason I thought California would be the fittest state........with all the tofu and sprouts, all the variety of activity available nearly all year long *shrugs* who knew? LOL

Louisiana is number six. We're actually getting fatter! I don't really think we have a culture of exercise here. It's too bad.

Memphis, Tennessee: 34% obese. Causes of the high rate of obesity include high rats of poverty, Southern hospitality and Southern cooking featuring fried foods.
I'll admit it, I lol'd.

Oh tell me about it! I couldn't believe all the typos in that Forbes list

All those pitiful Memphis rats living in poverty, unlike our wealthy Indiana rats..........someone should start a fund or something! LOL

Poverty is inextricably linked to obesity.

We call a lot of the kids round here "Sayers Babies". Sayers is a 'bakers' of sorts, and you always see the kids being pushed in there prams with a sausage roll or pastie. Just have to look in the cupboards of half the clients I work with to see packs of ready made stuff, cheap fizzy pop, sweets etc etc.

People don't have much money to spoil there children - so McDonalds and sweets are their regular treats instead of toys or trips.

There was actually quite a cheesy series on here called 'Fat meets Fatter' where they sent lardy arsed Brit kids off to see people in worse off states in other countries (usually South American) and they were always shocked that the fattest people usually lived in the slums. They thought they'd be emaciated and bony - but they ate fried everything. They even fried their pasta (from dry) I kid thee not.
