This is 7 year old Isen. He used to be my best friend in the world, but my daughter has since stolen him from me. Now I'm only his best friend if she is gone.

He has some gravitational problems, please excuse him. But see how she stole him???

That is a space heater. It is on. Whippets get cold. He asked for a nice warm Jammie like our Whippet friend makes, but I said- Ask your new owner! hehe :yikes:

Isen loves blankets, and beds.

He started out on the couch this way-

And ended up like this...

And at the end of the night, he ended up like THIS- see, I lost him completely. :(

Man, I love whippets and more and more you whippet owners are taunting me. Tell me, how do they compare with malinois? (I mean there are some obvious aspects... lol)

My whippets are couch potatoes. When they are outside, they run around and chase rabbits, but inside, SUPER good dogs. High high prey drive, but it also turns off SO well. I literally forget they are inside when they are, someone might be sleeping at my feet, but usually they are both sleeping on the couch ALL day. If they get into an argument, Isen will go upstairs and sleep on my bed.

They are very pack oriented dogs. Agreeable and get along with other dogs. If they offend, they are quick to back down, and offer submissive behavior so there is no argument. I'm used to the Mals that posture all day long lol.

They are warm, and make great hot water bottles in bed on cold nights. They stay there until you get up, too, and often give you the "do we hafta?" look when it is time to get up.

As you guys know, finding another breed to co-exist with a Malinois can be rough. I have found the Whippets are perfect. Our female, Leila, can back any of the Mals off if they are pestering her. But she only does it if she needs to. Isen just stays low man on the totem pole and everyone ignores him pretty much.

Excellent post Maliraptor. That sums up whippets really well. JRTs are another breed that can be hard to find a compatible breed to live with. Whippets are very good with other dogs.

Super cute!
My cousin has an Italian Greyhound and wanted to get another one but went the Whippet route. And she definitely favors the W over the IG lol Both are super high energy dogs outdoors but they are mellow inside. I love them.

If I may ask, how many dogs do you have?
I tend to forget what dog belongs to who unless you've been here awhile and I "know" you lol

They really are, such a pack mentality they work hard at getting along. Some of these other breeds we have we've bred that out, I think!

I originally in college wanted an IG. But had GSDs and was convinced I would break one. Went the whippet route and never looked back, I LOVE them.

:yikes: You want I should COUNT the dogs??? hehe. We have 2 whippets, and 4 Malinois. And 3 horses and 2 goats.

Oh! Forgot the obvious, Isen is missing part of his tail, he lost a flight from a coyote. Not a fight, a flight. Had to dock it, but he hasn't noticed. Isen also has professional work pics, but he does not race anymore.

Oh and look how CUTE-

Both my husband and I seriously train and compete, so to ME it is more like two Mals and 2 whippets. The horses are all mine, lol.

You sure on the goats, they are Pygmy goats? Drat now I will need to find a pic of them...

This is Tumbleweed and my Kid.

The big eyes, too. They are very fun dogs.

That's very, very interesting and something I had never thought of before. I think I had previously accepted that any dog I bring home will not work well with my German Shepherd to any degree, but never before really thought about breed compatibility. Trent is a pushy, possessive, grouchy, reactive dog that never lets another dog get the upper hand if he could help it, like you said, often posturing. HUGE Only Child Syndrome LOL

He is allowed supervised play, of course, and the only reason he gets to play with my neighbor's male German Shepherd is because that boy is a happy-go-lucky, peace loving, super sweet dog that thinks the world of Trent. He is rather rambunctious and my dog snarks at him when he jumps up on him or tries to steal a toy, and that immediately leads to my neighbor's GSD flat on the ground, ears back, offering kisses and tail wags. The fact that he is so quick and willing to back down means no altercations, but the problem is that he IS still an "in your face" type of dog. Trent wants to be left alone, not swatted at every five minutes!

I mostly chalk this GSD's behavior to his easy-going temperament and the fact that he grew up with Trent and Trent was always bullying him - his owner mentions regularly that he is usually the one posturing and getting rough, unless he is with my dog. I doubt I can count on that with my next pup... but the family is looking into Greyhounds and Whippets for their next dog.

Heck I'm still trying to steal him back! :rofl1:
:lol-sign: That's got to be tough - they do look adorable together :p
